Fees for service

The Drexel University Archives welcomes members of the public to use the resources in its collections.  Researchers may visit the archives in person during our normal hours of operation.  If you would like to visit the archives, we encourage you to call or email us (215-895-1757, archives@drexel.edu) with a general description of your research so the archivist can offer guidance prior to your visit.  For those unable to visit the archives in person, we provide genealogical and other research services.

The following is a list of fees for services provided by the university archives.

Photocopying

  • $.25 per page for the first 50 pages and $.50 per page thereafter.  Copying of some material may not be permitted.
  • $2.50 to mail orders ($5 if order is to be mailed overseas).

Scanned photographs and prints

  • $10 per photograph, $5 per text page
  • Printed to high-quality 8x10 matte paper, an additional $5
  • Sent as an attachment via email at no extra cost

Images and text pages will be scanned at 300 dpi and saved as JPEG files.

Genealogical searches

  • $10 research fee required to initiate a search.  Fee will be returned if person is not found.

Please provide the following required information:

  1. Name of person
  2. Affiliation with Drexel: student, faculty, administrator, etc.
  3. Year graduated or employed at Drexel

Any additional information you provide will assist us in maximizing our search.  The following sources will be checked:

  1. Yearbooks
  2. Biographical reference collection
  3. Photograph collections
  4. Record of diplomas and certificates (1893-1914)
  5. Student record books, if applicable (prior to 1920)

Genealogical researchers are also welcome to conduct their own research in person.  This might be necessary if potential sources are identified that are not included in the above list.

General research services

The university archivist will answer general inquiries if the sources for finding the requested information are readily available.  Research questions that require intense searching through primary material will be billed at $25 per hour.  Researchers will be informed in a timely manner if a research fee will be necessary to find their requested information.

Statement on copyright restrictions

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyright material. Under certain conditions specified by the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction.  One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.”  If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement.  The Drexel University Archives reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgement, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of the copyright law.  The granting of permission to publish by the archives does not absolve users of materials from securing permission from copyright owners and payment of such additional fees as the owners may require if the archives does not own copyright or if the material is not in the public domain.  Applicants assume all responsibility for questions of copyright and invasion of privacy that may arise in copying and in the use made of the photographic copy.
