Table of Contents Scope and content note
This collection contains items relating to the career and life of Drexel alumnus William B. Shoe. The bulk of the collection deals with his business life, with business licenses, blueprints and professional correspondence. There are also a number of photographs related to the launch and construction of his projects. The personal life of Mr. Shoe is primarily represented in his personal narrative, and with the inclusion of some photographs of students taken at the Drexel Institute, though he is not identified in any of these photographs.
Biographical Note
William B. Shoe was an alumnus of the Drexel Institute of Art, Science and Industry, who enrolled in 1893 and graduated with the Mechanical Arts class of 1896. He went on to work with the United States Navy as an assistant engineer. Mr. Shoe served briefly in the Spanish American War, then as an industrial inspector, a safety engineer, and in aspects of workers compensation insurance in government agencies. He also worked in the commercial and insurance industries, most notably the RCA Victor Company (known as the Victor Talking Machine Company in his time) in Camden, NJ, and the Maryland Casualty Company.

Two copies of the Eccentric-- from school years 1895 and 1896-- were removed. The collection of matted Drexel Institute photographs are kept in an oversized box.
