Women's athletics collection
1908-1960
UR 7.4, 1.42 cubic feet
This collection documents the history of women's athletics at Drexel, including physical education, which was officially sanctioned by the institute from the time of its founding, and competitive sports, which were informally organized by student members of the Women's Athletic Association (WAA) beginning in the early 1900s. The bulk of the collection consists of minutes of Women's Athletic Association meetings from 1908 to 1913, 1928-1949, and 1956-1958 and financial records from 1904 to 1914 and 1946 to 1960. At earlier dates, financial records of the WAA and the physical education department are maintained separately, but during the later period they are interfiled together. The collection also includes a series of sheet music; articles, programs, and publications relating to physical education for women; and files on professional societies for women's physical education, all dating from the 1910s and 1920s.
This collection is partially processed. A preliminary inventory is available in the archives; contact the archivist at archives@drexel.edu for more information.
