Physical education photographs
Physical education -- sometimes referred to as physical training or gymnastics -- started as a part of the Drexel curriculum in September 1892. The head of the men's department was J. Peterson Ryder. Maude G. Hopkins headed the women's department. Both were graduates of the Boston Normal School for Gymnastics founded in 1889. The department of physical training was eliminated by Drexel president Hollis Godfrey in 1914.
