Triangle article about 1896 Drexel alumna Dorothy Khtar, 1962

 Full article (PDF)

This article from the May 25, 1962, edition of the Triangle, written by news editor and 1965 electrical engineering alumnus Richard Pascal, provides a unique historical perspective of times long past here at Drexel.  In a recent e-mail to the University Archives, Mr. Pascal recalled his interview with Dorothy Khtar, an 1896 graduate in dressmaking, in her apartment at 36th and Chestnut Streets (the present site of the University City Sheraton).  He remembers sitting with her in her residence on one of the upper floors where she spoke of her days at Drexel.  He especially remembers the detailed recollections of her commute to Drexel that consisted of a ferry ride from her home in Camden across the Delaware River to Market Street, where she caught a horse-drawn trolley to 32nd and Chestnut Street.  Mr. Pascal added in his letter, “It is quite a kick, now, to think that I connected with a Drexel grad of some 110 years ago.”

The University Archives would like to thank Mr. Pascal for pointing us to his article at the recent alumni weekend as well as his assistance in adding some context to the story.
