UR 4.20 Army Specialized Training Program records, 1943-1944, 1 folder
The Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP) was an initiative to send academically talented soldiers and new enlistees to college in preparation for officer training. Many colleges around the country, including Drexel and a number of other colleges suffering from reduced enrollments during the war, offered accelerated courses in the sciences, medicine, dentistry, and languages. Drexel’s program, directed by physics professor M. Russell Wehr, appears to have enrolled approximately 310 students. The program was almost completely shut down nationwide in early 1944, when the Army sent most of its enrolled men into active duty. This collection consists mostly of lists of participants and their scores on standardized tests administered to program participants from July 1943 to March 1944. It also includes some correspondence with AST headquarters, statistics on Drexel students’ test performance, and journal articles about ASTP.
This collection is unprocessed. A preliminary inventory is available in the archives; contact the archivist at archives@drexel.edu for more information. UR 3.1 Academic Council minutes, 1960-1967, 1 cubic foot
This collection consists of minutes of Academic Council meetings from the group’s founding in 1960 until 1967. President James Creese suggested the establishment of what he called a “Council of Deans,” chaired by the dean of the faculty, to coordinate academic policies among the colleges of the Drexel Institute. The group’s name was changed to the Academic Council later that year to reflect the group’s membership, as many of the institute’s non-academic deans did not regularly meet with the council. By the 1980s, the council met under the leadership of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
This collection is partially processed. A preliminary inventory is available in the archives; contact the archivist at archives@drexel.edu for more information. Because the collection may contain confidential information, portions are currently restricted pending review by the archivist. See the university archives’ policy on access to records for further information.
UR 1.12 Assistant to the President patent records, 1966-1982, 2 cubic feet
In 1965, the Drexel Institute of Technology first formulated a policy on patents resulting from research by Drexel employees and students. Around 1970, a Patent Advisory Committee was established to review and make recommendations regarding cases where patent ownership was unclear. The Patent Advisory Committee was first appointed, and later chaired, by the vice president for academic affairs. In the early 1970s, this responsibility was transferred to the assistant to the president. This collection consists of administrative files relating to patents and the Patent Advisory Committee and a series of files on individual patent applications where ownership was considered by the Patent Advisory Committee.
