Mark your calendars! The University Archives will host an opening reception for the new exhibition, It’s [Not] Always Online. Curated by Estelle Markel-Joyet, Archives intern and iSchool student, the exhibition focuses on reference books of the last 500 years. The reception runs from 4-6 p.m. on the Lower Level of Hagerty Library, 33rd and Market Streets.

Veterans’ Day exhibition now on display in the Main Building
Next time you’re in Main, be sure to step up to the third floor to see the University Archives’ newest exhibition, Scholars who Served: a History of Drexel’s Veterans. The exhibition runs for one week only, November 9-13, and features photographs, news clippings, brochures, and letters that illustrate Drexel’s long history of participation in the United States Armed Forces.

Banned Books Exhibition Reception Tomorrow!
This week is Banned Books Week! A new exhibition titled,
“Banned Books, Banished Writers and Historic Bonfires:
Tales from the Rare Book Collection”
is currently on display on the lower level of Hagerty Library. The collection of books featured are from Drexel’s Special Collection and chronicles several significant events in the early history of book censorship.
An Opening Reception for the Exhibition is tomorrow,
Wednesday, September 30th from 4 to 6 p.m.
The event is open to all and includes complimentary refreshments.

Today’s Presidential Spotlight: Constantine Papadakis
Constantine Papadakis (1946-2009) served as president of Drexel University from Aug. 1, 1995, until his death on April 5, 2009. He presided over Drexel’s growth into the realms of medicine and law, doubled undergraduate enrollment, and increased the endowment from $90 million to $650 million.

William S. Gaither (b. 1932) served as the president of Drexel University from May 1984 through his resignation on Oct. 21, 1987, a period of difficulty but also of Drexel growth as a research university and as a residential campus.

Today’s Presidential Spotlight: William Hagerty
William Walsh Hagerty (1916-1986) served as president of Drexel from September 1, 1963, to his retirement in 1984 — at nearly 21 years, Drexel’s longest presidency. Like his predecessor James Creese, Hagerty also oversaw a long period of expansion for Drexel; most notably, the school’s transformation from an institute of technology into Drexel University in 1970.
