SPARC PARTNERS WITH BIOLINE INTERNATIONAL
North/South Initiative Opens Access to Bioscience Research from Developing Countries
Washington, DC – SPARC (Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) today announced a partnership with Bioline International, an online publishing service that provides open access to peer-reviewed research journals published in developing countries.
Founded in 1993, Bioline (http://www.bioline.org.br/) helps journals from developing countries reap the benefits of open access. By providing a platform for the free and open distribution of these scientific publications, otherwise largely invisible to the international scientific community, Bioline seeks to fulfill the promise of open access publishing.
More than 50 journals are now availble for free online. Many titles are published in english. Here are a few:
Electronic Journal of Biotechnology from Chile
Zoological Research from China
Indian Journal of Human Genetics from India
Iranian Journal of Environmental Health, Science and Engineering from Iran
African Journal of Food and Nutritional Security from Kenya
Biokemistri from Nigeria
Soon these titles will be listed in our catalog.
I just ran across this Vodcast about beavers. It is well presented and, I think, even-handed. They do try to give both sides to the story of beavers. I come down on the side of “good” beavers.

Mintel Reports is a database concerned with market analysis, producing some 600 reports involving European, UK-specific and US consumer markets every year. Two sections of interest are Drink and Food & Foodservice. Here, you will find market reports on very specific drink and food items. The business aspect of the drink and food industry may be of peripheral interest, however the resource does contain some nutritional and compositional information about products.
You have to jump through a couple of hoops to get started, but it is fairly painless. You have to register and establish a profile, essentially your name and email address. Then you select a “subscription” such as Drink or Food & Foodservice, then you select a report. The reports cover many aspects including market size, trends, consumer information and more.
To get started go to: http://www.library.drexel.edu/cgi-bin/r.cgi?url=http://reports.mintel.com
This resource is restricted to Drexel University.
