Want to work in China? It can be done!!

The NYTimes recently published a really interesting article on the increasing number of American students looking to China to find jobs and internships.

A big draw of working in China, many young people say, is that they feel it allows them to skip a rung or two on the career ladder.

Ms. Berman said: “There is no doubt that China is an awesome place to jump-start your career. Back in the U.S., I would be intern No. 3 at some company or selling tickets at Lincoln Center.”

Click here to read the entire article.

And remember, the SCDC offers stipends to students looking to do an international co-op in China.  To find resources on conducting an international co-op search in China, see my research guide!

How to Answer the Tough Interview Questions

The Steinbright Career Development Center will host a workshop on “How to Answer the Tough Interview Questions” on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, from noon to 1PM in Room 250, Steinbright Career Development Center, 3201 Arch St.

With increased competition for co-ops, internships, and jobs, it is more important than ever to have sharp interview skills.  Many employers are turning to behavior-based interview questions to try to predict future performance based on past experience.  This workshop will teach the STAR (situational, task, action, result) method of answering these questions and will touch on general interviewing tips.

For more information or to reserve a place, contact 215.895.2185.

Careers Pick of the Week:

Careers for Nature Lovers & Other Outdoor Types

Hagerty Careers S945 .M55 2001

If you dread the idea of working in a cubicle, its time you learn about all of the opportunities there are to work outdoors.  Careers in biological science allow you to study wildlife and plants in their natural habitat or dive into water to collect samples for testing.  Architects, chemists, and agriculturalists are just some of the other areas that offer hands-on careers that require you to work in the outdoors.  This helpful book will guide you by explaining what to expect on the job and how to go about attaining this type of career.
