Seniors: Looking for a job after graduation?

We all know that Senior year has its positives but one thing that no one looks forward to is the search for a job after graduation. While the last several years have been awesome, it’s now time to come back to the real world to find the perfect job and, hopefully, career for you. Unfortunately, there are so many options and things to consider that it’s hard to know where to start. Fortunately, we at Drexel are here to help!

The Steinbright Career Development Center is hosting several workshops for graduating seniors and recent alumni who are looking for full-time positions. On September 20-22, the staff at the SCDC will host three workshops a day to discuss the strategies needed by, and resources available to, graduating Drexel students. We also strongly recommend that graduating Seniors utilize the SCDC’s Dragon Jobs site, and attend the Fall Career Fair on Wednesday, October 12 from 10am-3pm. For a full listing of available workshops, please visit the SCDC Calendar and Events page found at http://www.drexel.edu/scdc/events/index.html.

Oddball Interview Questions

Sure, we’re all used to hearing about what questions to expect on an interview.  We even have books like More Best Answers to the 201 Most Frequently Asked Interview Questions and The 250 Job Interview Questions You’ll Most Likely Be Asked and the Questions That Will Get You Hired! that address commonly asked questions in an interview setting.  But what about those totally off-the-wall questions that no reasonable person could ever expect, such as “If you were a brick in the wall, which brick would you be and why?”  I mean, how would YOU answer that question?  (Believe it or not, ladies and gentlemen, that is a REAL interview question asked by Nestle USA!).  Well, thankfully, the good folks at Glassdoor.com have compiled a list of the Top 25 Oddball Interview Questions of 2009.  Check it out!

I guess this would be a good time to introduce Glassdoor!  We recently established a partnership with Glassdoor that allows our library users to access company salaries, reviews, and interviews for over 70,000 employers, posted anonymously by employees.  If you find that you can’t access information on the website, please let me know at dl423@drexel.edu.  We have a username and password for the Drexel community that should give you access to everything.

USAJOBS.GOV has a new look!

And it’s soooo much better now!  Thank you, President Obama!

You’ll also notice that their student jobs section looks much nicer as well!  You can also search for additional opportunities for students, such as apprenticeships, cooperatives, fellowships, grants, internships, and scholarships.  So much easier to navigate!
