National Engineers Week

Did you open your special edition of the Drexel Digest today?  I hope you did, because it was all about the events happening on Drexel’s campus for National Engineers Week!  In case you missed it, here is the schedule of events.  There is something going on just about every day, including an Engineering Career Fair tomorrow in Bossone.  If you are impatient and want to optimize your time at the career fair, see this list of employers who will be there.

Thinking about law school?

From Drexel’s Prelaw advisor, Grant Keener, comes news of this great event:

[THIS EVENT IS A “CAN’T MISS” FOR ANYONE APPLYING TO LAW SCHOOL THIS YEAR OR NEXT.  DREXEL HAS HOSTED THE PANEL FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS.  STUDENTS CONSISTENLY PRAISE THE QUALITY OF INFORMATION THEY RECEIVE]

Please plan to attend the 6th Annual Pennsylvania Law School Admissions Panel on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 from 5:30 – 8:00 PM in Drexel University’s Bossone Auditorium (31st and Market Streets, Philadelphia, PA 19104). As in previous years, representatives from each of the Pennsylvania law schools , plus Rutgers-Camden will participate in a panel discussion on the law school admission process.  There will be ample opportunity for questions from the audience. Following the panel discussion, we will host a reception where students and admissions representatives may chat informally.

The schedule for the evening is:

Registration (Bossone Lobby):  5:30 – 5:45 PM

Welcome and Introduction of Panelists (Bossone Auditorium):  5:45 – 6:00 PM

Panel Discussion (Bossone Auditorium):  6:00 PM – approx 7:15 PM

Hors ‘d oeuvre Reception (Bossone Lobby):  approx 7:15 – 8:00 PM

Thanks to the generosity of the Princeton Review, this event is being offered free of charge to students and prelaw advisors.

AIESEC Exchange and Recruitment Information Session

Students interested in local and international leadership experience, a co-op abroad or networking opportunities should consider joining Drexel’s AIESEC, the world’s largest student-run organization and the leading platform for personal and professional development.

AIESEC offers three branches:

  • An international network of more than 50,000 student members from 110 countries
  • Its own internship abroad program (more than 10,000 internships were available in 2009-10)
  • Conferences and leadership positions ranging from local to international

Recruitment information sessions will be held at the following times:

  • Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Creese Student Center Lower Level, Greenawalt Conference Room D (33rd and Chestnut Streets)
  • Thursday, January 20 at 6 p.m. at Matheson Hall, room 309 (32nd and Chestnut Streets)

AIESEC will host outgoing exchange information session for those who are interested in going on exchange with AIESEC as non-members.

The outgoing exchange information sessions will be held on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, January 18 at 6:15 p.m.at  Myers Hall, Multipurpose Room (33rd and Race Street)

Job search, meet social media

Sure, a 21st century job search has changed in character from its previous iteration.  No longer do job seekers  scour the newspaper for job ads; instead, they crawl the web.  But there are new job search strategies to add any job seeker’s repertoire: using social media!  Facebook and Twitter may be central to your social life, but they can be use be extremely useful to your job search.  Mashable explains how in this handy article.
