There are a number of reference books available online. How can I find out which reference books are available from our Library’s web site?

You can find electronic encyclopedias or handbooks by searching in our Library’s online catalog. For example, to locate electronic handbooks in the area of Mechanical Engineering, use ‘mechanical*’ and ‘handbook*’ as keywords in ‘Advanced Searching’ feature and by limiting to ‘DU Electronic Books’ option.

How do I find background information on Smart Materials?

From our online catalog, using Advanced Keyword Searching feature, and using ‘encyclopedia’ and ‘materials’ as key words,

we find, several encyclopedic reference sources which can help us find information on ‘Smart Materials’.

United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
The USPTO offers web access to bibliographic and full-text patent databases. These databases provide full-text of patents from 1976 to the present and full page images from 1790 to the present.

How do I access ANSI NFPA-85 code online?

We have access to NFPA 85: Boiler and Combustion Systems Hazards Code through a database called MAD CAD.

MAD CAD is the electronic database where you can find online version of this code. It contains building codes, knowledge-based design solutions, and guidelines to meet the codes. MAD CAD will provide you access to cross-referenced collections of building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire, and maintenance codes from BOCA, SBCCI, ICBO, ICC, and NFPA.

To access MAD CAD, go to Building Codes and click on MAD CAD.

You will need to logon with the username and password. You will see a list of codes. Scroll down until you reach NFPA 85.

Using online catalog to find books or journals

To find books on a particular topic, search in our online catalog using ‘Advanced Keyword Searching ‘feature and use appropriate keyword representing your research topic.

Following are some examples of recently received books in our library.

To see if a particular Journal or a Magazine title is either available in print or in electronic form, use online catalog, select ‘Journal Title’ option in the ‘Search by’ menu, and type the title of the Journal or Magazine that you are looking for.

Now try on your own to find TWO most recent books on ‘Nanostructured materials’ and a journal tile named ‘Bone&Joint’. Can I be able to find a 2003 article from this journal? How do I obtain this article if we do not have access to it?
