HubMed provides chart tracking keywords

ResearchBuzz reported a very interesting and useful feature of HubMed which now provides Charts Tracking Keywords. Excerpts: "It's an interface to the medical literature search engine PubMed that's simplified and very easy to use. Nice if you're not a professional medical researcher and find the PubMed interface overwhelming. HubMed also offers keyword-based RSS feeds for tracking additions to its database. HubMed also offers charts as well. Run a search. On the results page look to the right and you'll see a results count: "Results 1-20 of" however many results you got. Next to that will be a small chart icon." For example, searching for Biomaterials and then clicking the chart icon finds
16 papers with titles or abstracts containing the word 'biomaterials' in 1975; Number of papers with the term 'biomaterials' in titles or abstracts increased to 480 in 2005. (NOTE: the icon for 'charts' is not clearly visible; It is very small)

Webometrics including Top 500 R&D Institutes

Webometric indicators are provided to show the commitment of the institutions to Web publication and to the worldwide Open Access to knowledge. If the web performance of an institution is below the expected position according to their academic excellence, university authorities should reconsider their web policy, promoting substantial increases in the volume and quality of their electronic publications. Laboratorio de Internet is a research group of the CINDOC - CSIC that acts as an observatory of the academic and scientific research activities and publication on the Web. Every January and July this site will offer a ranking of universities and research centres worldwide according to the webometric indicators of their institutional web domains

New York Times article: Some Publishers of Scholarly Journals Dislike Bill to Require Online Access to Articles

According to the New York Times, (May 8, 2006), "The Federal Research Public Access Act of 2006, proposed last week by Senators Joseph I. Lieberman, Democrat of Connecticut, and John Cornyn, Republican of Texas, would require 11 government agencies to publish online any articles that contained research financed with federal grants. If enacted, the measure would require that the articles be accessible online without charge within six months of their initial publication in a scholarly journal."
