OpenDOAR – Directory of Open Access Repositories

OpenDOAR is an authoritative directory of academic open access repositories. Each OpenDOAR repository has been visited by project staff to check the information that is recorded here. This in-depth approach does not rely on automated analysis and gives a quality-controlled list of repositories.

As well as providing a simple repository list, OpenDOAR lets you search for repositories or search repository contents. Additionally, we provide tools and support to both repository administrators and service providers in sharing best practice and improving the quality of the repository infrastructure. Further explanation of these features is given in a project document Beyond the list.

Browse through Nanotechnology related papers archived: OpenDOAR Nanotechnology

Drexel’ E-Repository and Archives - iDEA is also indexed in the OpenDOAR Directory of Open Access Repositories.

ScienceDirect now has RSS feeds

ScienceDirect RSS feeds allow you to see when new articles, new cited references, citations or search results are available on ScienceDirect.

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an XML-based syndication format for distributing content on the Web. ScienceDirect offers XML-based feeds so you can receive updates on your desktop of all newly loaded content matching your RSS criteria. Each feed contains links to articles on ScienceDirect. ScienceDirect content is refreshed every day. ScienceDirect feeds are in RSS 2.0 format.

For more information, please see: About RSS and refer to the section on ‘Subscribing to an RSS Feed’.

For more detailed information on RSS feeds, see ‘Blogging as a tool: innovative approaches to information access’ and ‘Using RSS to increase user awareness of e-resources in academic libraries’ . Please refer to the section ‘What is RSS? How does it work? What is a feedreader?’ to help understand what RSS feeds are and how they can help you in keeping uptodate with new research information available from a variety of electronic databases available from the Drexel University Libraries.

Google Patents – some issues and what it does not cover

With the new Google Patent Search tool, one can search across more than 7 million patents. Each Google Patent Search result represents an individual patent. Click on the patent image to access full patent. It displays results based on their relevance to the specific search terms entered. One can also see number of details about each patent in the list of results. These include: patent title, U.S. patent number, filing date, assignee name, patent snippet, patent summary, claims, and drawings. ‘Search within this patent’ option is available to search the text of an individual patent for specific keywords and phrases. it also lists other patents that were cited by the patent described on the page and lists other patents that reference the patent described on the page.

Google Patent Search covers the entire collection of patents made available by the USPTO – from patents issued in the 1790s through those issued in the middle of 2006. It does not currently include patent applications, international patents, or U.S. patents issued over the last few months, but we look forward to expanding our coverage in the future

See About Google Patents for more information.

See Google Launches Google Patents, Full-Text US Patent Searching for comparison between the USPTO search and the Google search of the number of documents that show up for each year in a ten year period for the use of the word. See also Resourceshelf site to learn more about what Google Patents does not cover.
