Every year, thousands of students worldwide take the Knovel University Challenge — a contest that allows students to compete for prizes while learning how to use the research tools they’ll need to complete assignments and ultimately succeed in the workplace. The contest is also a fun way to start the school year. We plan to keep it interesting with iPads, cash prizes and lots of other cool stuff.
What are the details?
See: Knovel University Challenge
When Is the Contest: September 12 – December 1
Who Should Play: The contest is open to current engineering and science students. They can simply search Knovel to answer 3 technical questions across core disciplines
What Are the Prizes: Completing the challenge will allow students to enter to win great prizes, including an iPad 2 and $500 in cash!

Drexel IEEE organized Student Professional Awareness Conference (SPAC) on October 28th
and October 29th at the Bossone Atrium.
Engineers must be proficient, professionally astute, and clearly aware of their responsibility to society. Student Professional Awareness Conferences (S-PACs, pronounced “ess-paks”) explore the subjects that affect engineers’ careers, regardless of how well engineers prepare themselves technically.
First introduced in 1979, S-PACs are an effective vehicle to transmit the professional awareness that enhances the technical education they receive in engineering school. S-PACs permit students to learn from the varied experience of successful engineers.
See: What is S-PAC?
Events included a presentation on Humanoid Robot by Dr. Youngmoo Kim, a tour of the Drexel Autonomous Systems LAB (DASL), a presentation on the Future of Robotics by Dr. Kosta Daniilidis, and a presentation on EVX Team Hybrid car Competition. The event ended with the several high school students participating in the robotics arm competition.

The nanoHUB also provides collaboration environment via Workspaces, Online meetings and User groups.
Resources come from over 600 contributors in the nanoscience community, and are used by thousands of users from over 170 countries around the world. Most of our users come from academic institutions and use nanoHUB as part of their research and educational activities.
This Smart Grid development project is managed by and run from the Virginia Tech Advanced Research Institute in Arlington, VA with assistance from the IEEE Power & Energy Society and EnerNex Corporation. The objective is to design, populate, manage and maintain a public Smart Grid Information Clearinghouse (SGIC) portal. Contents in the SGIC portal will include demonstration projects, use cases, standards, legislation, policy and regulation, lessons learned and best practices, and advanced topics dealing with research and development. The SGIC database will highlight the rapidly evolving opportunity to use electricity in an environmentally responsible way. It is envisioned that the SGIC portal will be the essential gateway that connects the smart grid community to the relevant sources of information that are currently scattered and distributed on the worldwide web.
