wait a minute, this looks different!

You might have noticed that a few of our popular electronic databases look a little different.  We have switched over some of our abstracting and indexing databases to different platforms (many A & I databases offer their content through several different vendors).  Here’s what’s changed!

MLA International Bibliography — Drexel now subscribes to MLA via Proquest’s CSA Illumina Platform.  MLA was previously available from OCLC Firstsearch.  Alternate access to MLA Bibliography on the Chadwyck Healey platform is also available here

PAIS International — Also Previously available from OCLC Firstsearch, PAIS International is now accessible through the CSA Illumina Platform

Cochrane Library — The Cochrane Library from Wiley is made up of several resources previously accessible at Drexel through OvidSP.  These include several Evidence Based Medicine titles such as Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR; Cochrane Reviews); Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects (DARE); Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL; Clinical Trials); Cochrane Methodology Register (CMR; Methods Studies); NHS Economic Evaluation Database (NHSEED; Economic Evaluations); and Health Technology Assessment Database (HTA; Technology Assessments).

Ebrary Enhancements

Ebrary has announced some new enhancements which should be implemented soon. This includes new features that they’ve added to their Quickview interface.

Dear Customers, Partners, and Friends:

By the end of the week, ebrary is shipping a number of powerful new features that make it quicker and easier to discover, use, and manage information online.

We have considerably improved our QuickView Reader, which does not require any software downloads or installations. New QuickView features include InfoTools, which turns every word into a network to other online resources; copying; highlighting; annotating; and the ability to turn text into hyperlinks. As you may know, ebrary recently added printing to QuickView as well as integration with RefWorks and EndNote for easy citation management.

Additionally, end-users can now email bookshelf folders containing notes, highlights, hyperlinks, and bookmarks to peers.

Video clips showcasing our new developments are available at www.ebrary.com

Sincerely,

The ebrary team

CINAHL access expanded

Thanks to help from the College of Nursing, Drexel now has a site license to the essential nursing resource CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) on the EbscoHost platform.  We previously held a 20-user-limit subscription to this database, which was causing many nursing students to be turned away from the database.

Check out our unlimited CINAHL access for yourself!

Google Scholar — New and improved linking!

Drexel Libraries have offered SFX linking through Google Scholar for a few years now, but there have often been issues with the quality of the linking to Drexel’s resources.  HOWEVER, thanks to Ian Richmond’s investigative work, we can now offer Drexel linking within Google Scholar at a much higher success rate! Take a look!

Students on Drexel’s campus searching Google Scholar will automatically be recognized as Drexel patrons and will see Find it@DREXEL links next to each citation  for which we link to full text.  The ‘Find it@DREXEL’ links will appear in every citation, but for those to which we link to full text the link is much more prominently displayed next to the article title (for the other citations, the Find It link is below the citation and will link patrons to ILL).

From off-campus, patrons may set up their preferences to see results for Drexel when searching Google Scholar.  Complete instructions on using Google Scholar are available here.

We can now much more confidently direct patrons to Google Scholar for article discovery!  Thank you Ian for all your work on this.
