Welcome Back! Library Updates (we've been busy while you were gone)
As we welcome all our new students for the Fall term, we don't want to neglect our students returning from a summer off, or just the term break. We have some exciting new things to share with you!
First, at Queen Lane, Katherine (Katie) Montgomery Lewis has joined the library staff at the circulation desk. Katie is a graduate student in the iSchool, and new to the Philadelphia area -- stop by and say hello!
At Hahnemann Library:
- Final construction details are being finished up on two new "collaborative spaces" that will be listed in the reservation system for group study rooms. Rooms 2247 along the north wall of the Library, and 2277 near the study table area were both copier rooms in their past lives, but have been freshly painted and carpeted for their new purpose; white boards will be installed in each room shortly. Let us know how you like the new flexible-use furniture!
- To make room for new study space, the color photocopier has been moved; you'll now find it in the alcove next to room 2277. Go past the Thesis collection (right across from the 2nd floor entrance), and turn right down the hallway; the copier alcove will be immediately on your right, just before the entrance to room 2277. Black and white copiers are still available in the 24-hour study room, and on the 1st floor in the stairwell.
- New Macs and iPads (that's right, we said iPads!) are now available at the Hahnemann circulation desk. Five new Mac Book Pros have been added to the collection of laptops for use in the library. The iPads are available as part of a pilot project. They can be borrowed by students, faculty and University staff who are in good standing with the Libraries Monday to Thursday 10 am – 10 pm andFriday 10 am – 8 pm. The iPads, which will be pre-loaded with a selection of apps and library tools, may be taken out of the Library. The iPad loan program is a trial program, and participants will be asked to complete a survey upon returning the device.
Across all Libraries, we have implemented a new Course Reserves system. You'll now find online course readings (articles, streaming video) and listings for print items available in the Libraries, linked directly from your class site in Blackboard Learn. How convenient is that?!
