EM-DAT: the International Disaster Database is an appropriate resource for health disciplines such as EMTs, emergency medicine physicians, and epidemiologists.

“The EM-DAT Emergency Disasters Database, maintained by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED), provides access to useful information concerning both natural and manmade disasters. Data extend throughout most of the 20th century and include but are not limited to disasters such as famine, wind storms, extreme temperature, industrial accidents, drought, and earthquakes. In addition to viewing the date and frequency of particular disaster types by country or region, the EM-DAT Database also generates the number of people affected, injured or killed and the estimated financial damage.

A new five-volume work, the Dictionary of Medical Biography, edited by W.F. Bynum and Helen Bynum, published by Greenwood Press, is now available on the reference shelves at the Queen Lane Library. Drexel University College of Medicine’s Steven J. Peitzman, MD, FACP, is among the numerous first-rate historians and physicians who are contributors to this major publication. Its call number at Queen Lane is REFERENCE-ENCYCL WZ 113 D5545 2007.
Hahnemann Library’s audiovisual collection, which was housed on the first floor in the micro center, has now been moved to the second floor, opposite the leisure book collection and magazines. Relocating the AVs means users can browse freely for any audiovisuals in the collection. Select videos and CDs have been moved into the reserve collection.

XreferPlus is a database of over 200 reference books containing a section on Medicine.You’ll find many medical and allied health dictionaries in it. The titles include Dorland’s Illustrated Medical Dictionary, Taber’s Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary, and several Mosby’s dictionaries. XreferPlus may be accessed through the libraries’ Databases list.

Take a look at PsycBooks, an APA database which contains the full text of over 1,200 e-books. The titles are either classics in the field of psychology or works published by APA between 1950-2002. Although PsycBooks is updated monthly, there is an 18 month embargo on recently published books.
The Health Sciences Libraries now have access to Nursing Consult. This Mosby/Elsevier product, which is similar to MDConsult and FirstConsult ,offers an array of books, journals, drug information, patient handouts. It’s designed to help nurses find answers to clinical questions.
Contains full-text of Nursing Clinics and Critical Care Clinics of North America.
