New Nursing & Allied Health Encyclopedia

The Gale Encyclopedia of Nursing & Allied Health was recently added to the Hahnemann Library collection. This 5 volume set is a starting point for learning about topics pertaining to nursing, physical therapy, radiologic technologists, and related fields. Available in Hahnemann Library’s reference section under the call number, WY 13 G151 2007.

Global Terrorism Database

The Global Terrorism Database was developed by START, the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism based at the University of Maryland. Funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), this new database is the world’s largest unclassified database of terrorism attacks. Five years in the making, it includes 80,000 terror incidents from 1970 through 2004. START plans to update the database through 2007 soon.

Interactive Tutorial in Radiology

The Introduction to Radiology Tutorial created by the University of Virginia, Department of Radiology, serves as an introductory tool for Head CT, the Chest, PET/CT Basics, Pediatric Radiology, and more. The tutorial also covers Informed Consent, Patient Confidentiality, and Medical Billing.

New Resource about Genetic Diseases

The Genetic Alliance has created a genetic disease search tool called Disease InfoSearch. The database allows users to search for advocacy support groups related to specific genetic conditions. “Genetic Alliance is a coalition of more than 600 advocacy organizations serving 25 million people affected by 1000 conditions.”

Diseases and Conditions Index (DCI)

Developed by The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, the Diseaes and Conditions Index is designed for consumers. It covers heart, lung, and blood diseaes as well as sleep disorders. Information can be printed, saved, or emailed. The Institute’s goal is to have over 300 diseases and conditions represented on the website. Registered users can receive email notificatioin of new additions.
