DNA from the Beginning is an interactive website which covers the basics of DNA, genes, and heredity. Created by the Dolan DNA Learning Center, it has three sections: classical genetics, molecules of genetics, and genetic organization and control — all of which include animation, images, video interviews, biographies, and more. The website also has a link to Inside Cancer: multimedia guide to cancer biology, which was featured on our blog last year.

HazLit: natural disasters database
HazLit is a free database covering research on natural hazards and catastrophic events. It was created by the Natural Hazards Center Library at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Updated weekly, the database contains over 28,000 citations to government documents, journal articles, and reports.

RefShare -Now available
RefShare, RefWorks’ citation-sharing feature is now available through the DU Libraries subscription. RefWorks users can share their folders or their entire RefWorks database with both RefWorks and non RefWorks users. RefShare can be used for group projects or as a way to post readings for a class. Web of Knowledge Redesigned
Web of Knowledge (ISI), which includes Web of Science, has a new interface. After clicking on the Web of Knowledge link, click on the Access the New Version tab at the top of the page. This new interface will replace the present version of Web of Knowledge in January 2008.

DynaMed is a clinical reference tool that monitors the content of over 500 journals and systematic evidence reviews. Updated daily, entries include diagnosis and treatment information, references, guidelines, and patient handouts for each condition.

RefWorks Update: Write-N-Cite for MAC and More
RefWorks has released its latest features. There is a new Mac Write-N-Cite which has a Citation Editor. RefWorks has also been updated with a customizable output style list, a new export option for tagged format in XML, and updated tutorials. CDC WONDER-a Public Health Tool
CDC WONDER (Wide-ranging ONline Data for Epidemiologic Research). This free resource from the CDC allows users to search and read guidelines, reports, and recommendations about public health topics and search for statistics on topics such as census data, HIV/ AIDS, and mortality. Data can be imported into several desktop applications like Excel in a variety of formats.

BioText Search Engine searches over 150 open access journals for figures used in the articles. This free search engine was developed by the University of California, Berkeley.
