Who Moved My . . . ?
The elves were busy at Hahnemann Library while students were on break. They moved some collections to make them easier to find, and started condensing the general book collections.
- Careers Collection — you’ll now find these useful books in the first section of shelving across from the circulation desk, near the printing station.
- Oversize Books — these are now located to the right of the reference desk. If you’ve never browsed through our oversize books, take a look! We have everything from art books to anatomy atlases to A Sett of Anatomical Tables, with Explanations, and an Abridgment, of the Practice of Midwifery, With a View to illustrate at Treatise on the Subject and a Collection of Cases, originally published in 1754.
- Yearbooks — can now be found directly behind the reference desk.
The general book collection is being condensed towards the front of the library; look for temporary tags to indicate the call numbers to be found in each section.

Counting Down to Finals
Keep breathing, you’re almost there!
For prime study space this week and during finals, reserve a group study room in the Hahnemann Library. We have rooms that can accomodate groups from 4 people to 14, all with whiteboards available. Groups must have at least 3 people to reserve a room, but rooms that aren’t reserved can be used as quiet (shared) study space.
Reserve your room online at http://www.library.drexel.edu/room_reserve_hs/room_reserve.
And as always, we thank our students and other patrons for the courtesy they show each other by keeping study areas of the library quiet, and for taking cell phone calls out to the lobby or the stairwell!

How Much is YOUR Laptop Worth?
Not just what you paid when you bought it, but including your class notes, the draft of your thesis, the data for your research project?
We’re sorry to report that there have been two laptop thefts from Hahnemann Library in recent weeks. PLEASE do not leave your laptop or other valuables (phone, iPod, wallet, etc.) unattended, even for “just a minute” — it only takes a second for a thief to stuff your laptop in a bag and walk away. If you absolutely must leave your belongings, please make sure that a friend is actively watching them until you return.
Replacing a laptop on a student budget is tough; replacing hours or months of work on a student schedule could be even harder!

Testing Easy-to-use Scanners at Hahnemann Library
Scanning documents, or pages of books just got easier! Hahnemann Library is testing out a new touch-screen controlled scanner. In just a few easy steps, you can create files in pdf, jpeg, word and other formats and send them to a flashdrive, your email, or a Google Docs account. The bed of the scanner is constructed to make it easy to copy pages from a book without smashing the binding.
Other models of scanners are currently being tested at Hagerty Library; in coming weeks, we’ll rotate the scanners so you’ll have a chance to try all the options. We welcome your feedback to determine which models are preferred, and whether scanning can help reduce the use of photocopiers in the libraries. Leave a comment here, or send your feedback to us at hslib@drexel.edu.
Go green to save some green — scanning instead of photocopying saves paper, and saves you money (and the frustration of dealing with paper jams)!

Hahnemann Library Hours, Labor Day Weekend and Beyond . . .
Hahnemann Library will be open Saturday, 9/3 and Sunday 9/4, from Noon to 6 p.m., but closed on Monday, 9/5 for the Labor Day holiday. The 24-hour study room will, of course, remain open through the weekend and on Monday.
After Labor Day, our summer schedule of hours (closing at 9:00 pm Monday – Thursday) will continue, most likely until the start of the Fall term. At that point, we hope to be able to hire a full roster of student employees so that we can restore our longer weekend and evening hours. Thank you for your continued patience during a staffing shortages this summer!

From the Suggestion Box: 1st Floor Closing
Suggestion submitted, 7/5/2011:
Please keep the downstairs open past 5:30! There’s no room upstairs to spread out!! (unless you own a laptop, which I dont)
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused by our temporary changes, which include closing the 1st floor at 6, and closing the 24-hour area off from the library earlier (see previous blog post).
Due to delays in distribution of work study awards, there are no students available to work in the library; our evening and weekend librarians are working solo in order to keep the library open. For better security when there is only one person to supervise the library, we’ve decided to close the 1st floor when the staff who work in that area leave.
If you don’t find the computer area on the 2nd floor satisfactory for your study needs, please consider checking out a laptop from the circulation desk — we have both Windows laptops and MacBooks that can be borrowed for 3 hours at a time. Any study rooms that aren’t booked can be used for individual study — plenty of privacy and table space to spread out your work!

Hahnemann Library Evening/Weekend Changes
Due to the scarcity of student workers, the Hahnemann Library will have reduced staffing in the evenings and on weekends through the remainder of the summer. To ensure the security of our students and staff, we are implementing the following changes:
24-hour Study Area: This area will now be closed off from the main area of the Library at around 5 pm on weekdays. We will follow the same closing process currently in use: patrons studying in the 24-hour area will be asked to exit through the Library. After a quick sweep of the area for stray Library materials, patrons will be able to re-enter through the lobby door.
1st Floor: The 1st floor (computer lab) will be closed at 6 pm on weekdays and will remain closed on weekends.
