Get It! from the Library!

The Libraries’ transition from SFX to Get It! is almost complete. You should be seeing the eye-catching Get It! button in all database search result. Get It! will lead from your search results to the Drexel-subscribed options for getting the full text of an article online; if the article isn’t available online, Get It! will lead to the libraries’ catalog to check for print holdings, or to our Interlibrary Loan system. Please note that when using PubMed, the link from the library website will identify you as Drexel-affiliated so that you’ll see the Get It! links with your search results.

A very useful feature of Get It! is the Citation Linker — now included in the Quick Links on the Health Sciences Libraries homepage.  Use the Citation Linker to find the fulltext when you have a citation in-hand, from the reference list of another article, from a colleague, or from a previous search.

The last stage of the transition to Get It!, expected to be completed next week, will be to update all library catalog records for electronic journals to utilize the Get It! linking.  Until this is completed, e-journal records in the catalog will divert to the Electronic Journal Locator, where you can browse alphabetically or by subject areas for a journal available online.

GET IT! at the Library

The libraries have begun transitioning to a new link-resolver system; that’s “library-talk” for the mechanism that helps you get from an article citation in one database to the article content that may be available from a different provider.

The SFX icons that you’ve seen in the past will be going away and will be replaced by the bold new icon you see above.  This change will be phased in through the month of June; watch for it in your favorite databases!

The Get It change is more than cosmetic — our new link-resolver system promises us more frequent updates, and more accurate information about our electronic journal subscriptions. Changes in our catalog and electronic journal finder will also make the linking process smoother and more error-free.

GET IT = new icon – easier linking – better service!  Got it?

SFX: OVID and ScienceDirect connection problems

We have been experiencing some difficulties connecting to journals in the OVID and ScienceDirect (Elsevier) collections via the SFX linking system.  The OVID problem seems to occur only when connecting from off-campus while the ScienceDirect problem can occur regardless of location.

In both cases, it is still possible to obtain the desired journal article.

For ScienceDirect journals: ScienceDirect seems to be having trouble interpreting the article-level information from SFX.  Return to the SFX window, and remove the year, volume, issue and page number information from the boxes, then click on the red GO button again.  ScienceDirect will open to the entry point for the journal title; it will be necessary to select the volume and issue needed from the listing on the left, then find the required article in the table of contents.

Remove text from boxes.

For OVID Journals: Search in the library catalog for the required journal title; click the provided link to connect to OVID, then select the volume and issue needed from the display, and find the required article in the table of contents.

We are working to resolve both of these problems; please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need assistance.
