DUSLA Makes Mark at Philly SLA Board Meeting & Spring Banquet
The Drexel student chapter of SLA aka "DUSLA" really made a mark at the last SLA Philly Board meeting! The Board convened to a full agenda May 9th, at the bucolic Radnor Township “Willows” historic mansion, just prior to the Spring Banquet.
Among the items discussed by the Board was the May 2nd "Rush @ Rush" where a dozen or so professional associations made one-on-one table-top style presentations to several dozen iSchool students. Also highlighted were recommendations by their Technology Task Force - researched and contributed by DUSLA members Nicole Engard and Brett Bonfield - to manage "producing and consuming" information for the Philly Chapter. And mention of the upcoming talks by Lubuto Library Project founder Jane Meyers on May 22nd.
This was followed by great food, networking, and an award ceremony in which "Chapter Appreciation Awards" were bestowed upon the entire slate of DUSLA officers for their great teamwork this past year. Way to go DUSLA!
Afterwards the visiting speaker from Lynn Berard, Principal Librarian for Carnegie Mellon Engineering & Science presented on the newly devised 6 point "READ scale" for classifying reference interactions. Keep a lookout for her article (with co-author Bella Gerlich) in an upcoming ACRL publication.
Last but not least, the evening concluded with the announcement of this years Knower Award recipient, Brett Bonfield, in acknowledgement of his contributions to the student chapter in his capacity as its Treasurer. Given annually, the cash award is made to support a library science student attending SLA's National Conference, held this year in Denver Colorado. Congratulations Brett!

Addendum - also at the Board meeting - brief mention was made of DUSLA's nomination for the "Outstanding Leadership Award" given by the SLA (National) Student and Academic Affairs Advisory Council (SAAAC) - AND - the SLA Philly Chapter's self-nomination for it's "outstanding collaboration" with the student chapter - BOTH OF WHICH WERE SUCCESSFUL!!! Congratulation DUSLA! Congratulation Philly SLA CHAPTER!
