Drexel Votes: But Don't Forget to Register!

tara_vote.gifIn support of Drexel Votes 2008, Hagerty Library is providing Pennsylvania Voter Registration forms at the Circulation Desk.

If you plan to vote in the Pennsylvania Presidential Primary on April 22nd, you must be registered by March 23rd; if you're planning to vote in your home state, be sure to check for their primary date (Download file). Registration information and deadlines for each state can be found through the National Association of Secretaries of State at http://www.canivote.org/.

Visit Drexel Votes 2008 for more information about how to register and where to vote, and about upcoming Drexel Votes events.

No One Wants to be the Food Police!

meatballs.gifIt just isn't any fun.

But in addition to frequent complaints from our students about smelly and messy food eaten and discarded in study rooms and other parts of Hagerty Library, we've noticed that our mouse population is growing in both numbers and plumpness.

Please feel free to enjoy a candy bar or a tightly-covered mocha decaf latte anywhere in the Library (except, of course, near the computers), but in consideration of your fellow students -- and our hardworking cleaning staff -- please find your way to the Lower Level or to the newly-opened Bookmark Cafe when you're digging in to one of John's delicious meatball sandwiches, or an order of Kung Pao chicken.

Thank you for helping to keep the Library clean.

Bookmark Cafe Debuts

Bassem-Gabra-in-24x7-room.gifMechanical Engineering student Bassem Gabra was the first to take advantage of the booth-style seating in Hagerty Library's newly-opened Bookmark Cafe. Cafe-style booths and small tables are all equipped with tabletop electrical outlets. Additional furnishings expected to arrive later this week will include armchair for comfortable napping studying, and shelving for current periodicals. Soft shades temper the flood of sunlight from the south-facing windows, and hanging fixtures provide appealing lighting in all seating areas.

Students who settled in quickly for studying this morning were excited about the booth seating and easy electrical access, and looking forward to the opening of the coffee counter.

The Bookmark Cafe, like all of Hagerty Library, will be open 24/7 beginning on Thursday, December 6th and continuing through the end of the exam period; when security arrangements are complete, the Cafe will remain open all night, with a separate ID card-controlled entrance. After the end of the exam period, vending machines will be relocated from the lower level to provide all-night beverage and snack options.

Firefox Bug: Renewing Library Items

firefox.jpgIt has come to our attention that some functions of the Library Catalog, particularly renewing items using My Library Record, don't work when using the Firefox browser.

We recommend using Internet Explorer at this time for renewing books online or marking and saving records from the Library Catalog; you can also request the assistance of library staff in renewing books by emailing us circulat@drexel.edu. We hope to find a resolution to this problem ASAP!

November New Books at the Libraries

failed.jpgBrowse the November New Book Lists for recent additions to the Hagerty and Health Sciences Library Collections. For your convenience, the lists are grouped by broad subject areas -- set a bookmark for your area of interest ; although the lists are updated each month, the page address for each subject area will always stay the same.

And of course, if you want a more personalized or specialized announcement of additions to the library collections, set up an email alert using the "Preferred Searches" feature of our catalog.
