Congratulations to the grand prize winner of the Hagerty Library Bookmark Café Raffle: Charles Andrada! In honor of the Grand Opening of the new 24/7 study space and café held February 13th, Charles won a $50.00 Gift Certificate to Barnes & Noble Booksellers. Additional prize winners have been contacted by email.
Construction crews working on the 3rd floor of Hagerty Library have begun dismantling the existing duct work. Sawing through the metal ducts is going to be very noisy; this work is expected to continue until about 2:00 pm each day.
The new compact shelving area in Hagerty Library's lower level, is now open for browsing. The library materials moved to this area include Juvenile and Teen books, national bibliographies (i.e, The National Union Catalog, Historical Records Survey, Monthly Catalog of United States Documents, etc.), oversized books, and all print journals remaining in Hagerty Library.
Ann Keith Kennedy, Librarian for Media Arts and Design, is pleased to announce that we have added another streaming audio service from Alexander Street Press to our collections. Alexander Street Press are also the producers of our popular Classical Music Library.
Scaffolding is being erected today beneath the large atrium in Hagerty Library, in order to allow work on the skylight and the heating and ventilating systems as part of the third floor renovations. Once construction of the scaffolding is completed, traffic paths from the front desk and in front of the computer area will reopen. The scaffolding is expected to remain in place for several months.
Because of the scaffolding construction, the Reference Desk was moved yesterday, towards the south end of the Library, and rotated to be perpendicular to the Circulation Desk.
In addition, L101 -- the glassed in room at the foot of the stairs -- has now been designated a quiet study space. Carrels from the third floor have been moved to this area. Students are expected to work quietly in this space; no cell phone rings or conversations, no music audible to others. Your fellow students will appreciate your courtesy!
