the library needs a new thermostat that regulates air flow in and out on each floor rather than the whole building.. as the students are quite perturbed by the 15 degree change when traveling from the 3rd floor to the basement.
This is a superb initiative taken by the Hagerty library. Drexel has always made it a point to make International students feel at home and the libary folks have done just that!!! :) I'm sure that all Indian students (and their non-Indian Drexel friends whom they have spoken to, about these movies) will appreciate your efforts! Thank you very much!
We certainly understand the frustration with excessive use of cell phones in the Library. We do ask library patrons to keep their conversations quiet, and to use their cell phones only in the areas near the restrooms on each floor. We will be posting additionals signs during exam weeks to remind students to be courteous to others who are studying.
If the library is going to be open 24/7 with only two security guards present, does that mean it will be easier now for me and my girlfriend to find a quiet place to hook up without getting interrupted?
Please keep in mind that the Public Safety Officers will be patrolling throughout the building, including the unlocked study rooms. We hope that students will take advantage of all-night access to the Library in appropriate ways!
I tried to be around for the Two Towers movie until 1 AM last Saturday. They didn't show it during the first hour if at all. If they couldn't find the DVD, a sign saying the movie is cancelled would have been nice. Thank you for having such a wonderful event!
According to the DragonCard Office, they will have only Monday-Friday, 8am - 5pm hours until the start of the Fall term. You can contact the DragonCard Office directly at 215-895-6095 or dragoncard@drexel.edu.
Is Drexel Island only available at Hagerty Library? I'm a new SL user as well as a Drexel student but was unable to find Drexel Island when I searched for it using my home computer. Please advise. Thanks.
The DVD collection is growing to be impressive. I was pleased to see the movie "Paradise Now" listed... I would like to see several of the recent documentaries made about the Iraqi people since 2003 added to the collection. "My Country, My Country" and "Iraq in Fragments" both nominated for Oscar's are excellent. Thanks!
Debra,
Here's the SLurl for Drexel Island -- http://slurl.com/secondlife/Drexel/125/175/25. Click on it BEFORE you open your Second Life application, and you should be able to teleport directly to the Island. We'd love to have your feedback on your visit to the Libraries' areas of the Island. Thanks!
Im a student enrolled in the WIT class to become a tutor. Since I'm on co-op I think it will be hard for me to do observations in the morning/afternoon. I was wondering if there are any scheduled appointments in the evening (sometime after 6)that I can observe this week. Ive been meaning to stop by the library and check but I havent been able to.
Stephanie: I believe the writing center tutors will offer appointments in Hagerty Library between 5:30 and 8:30 in the evening. You should probably contact them directly at e-writer@drexel.edu about doing observations.
I think that using a SID# should still be valid because I have a class in hagerty and I commute. Sometimes i get to class and realize I have forgotten my ID at home. If I am not allowed to use my SID# I may have to miss a class, which would be really frustrating. People forget their IDs but they will always know their SID# Also what is supposed to happen if you have a temporary ID? there are no proxy chips in those.
Dear Maria,
Please help by carrying your Drexel ID whenever you are on campus. It's actually a University requirement. More importantly, our new access gate and ID scanning will help make Hagerty a safer and more secure environment for all students. Students without IDs will be asked to get a temporary ID -- good for 2 weeks, one issued per student per term -- at the ID office or the Creese Student Center. Public Safety guards will honor a temporary ID and scan it and the student's driver's license. Thanks for your cooperation and help with this change in Hagerty access policy.
I had too many childhood favorites to identify just one. Reading John Wiggins' post about The Mysterious Disappearance of Leon (I mean Noel) reminded me that Ellen Raskin was one of my favorite authors, and I still love her books today. The Tattooed Potato and Other Clues was a particular favorite.
How do I know I won't get squished in the compact shelving? It seems a little dangerous.
The compact shelving system has a lot of safety features: if the pressure plate at the bottom of each row of shelves detects anything in the aisle, it will immediately lock. If you want extra security, use the locking tab on the handles at either end of each row to lock the shelves in place -- but please be sure that you release the lock-tab when you're finished in that aisle!

Please try not to let people reserve rooms as a means of booking a free motel room... It limits the availability of rooms at this limited library

Any chance the Dragon Card office will offer evening hours for students who work and only come to campus on evenings/weekends?
