Homebrewing and video games?

Find out the connection this Thursday and take part in a conversation on gaming culture.

May 24, 4 to 5 PM

W.W. Hagerty Library, room L-33 (Lower Level)

Kevin Impellizeri, doctoral candidate in history at the University of Delaware, will discuss his research on a DIY community of programmers who built games for the Bally Astrocade console in the 1980s. From 1978-1986, they published a newsletter before moving to a Usenet group. Visit their online treasure trove for Astrocade enthusiasts at Bally Alley.
Kevin has been tracing the group’s motivations, development, and conversations about ownership production. The case study is a part of Kevin’s larger research project on the history of video games and American culture.

A Q&A session and discussion will follow the presentation.

Effective Presentation with Prezi

May 17th, 4 PM-5:30 PM
W.W. Hagerty Library, L14

Prezi is a web-based application that allows for multi-authoring of visual presentations, which makes it great for group projects. Instead of a slide deck, you create your presentation on a large canvas – you can pan and zoom to different parts of the canvas as you present different ideas. You can easily insert text, images, videos, PDFs and hyperlinks into your Prezi to make the content more engaging. This workshop is a hands-on, introduction to the tool.

Learning Objectives:

  • Navigate the Prezi menus and interface
  • Insert and edit different types of content in your Prezi
  • Share your Prezi

Workshop Presenter: Nancy Bellafante, Librarian for Undergraduate Learning.
