Service Spotlight: Roving Reference and New iPad2s for Checkout

On Monday, May 7th, the Libraries will launch two exciting new pilot programs at W. W. Hagerty Library:

1. Roving Assistance – Libraries’ staff, equipped with an iPad, will circulate throughout W. W. Hagerty Library offering guidance and assistance to patrons. So, if you see a Libraries staff member – ask them your question about finding an item, printing, or other library related issues. They can help find items in the catalog and more, from any space in the building.

2. iPads on Loan – Drexel Students, Staff and Faculty are invited to participate in a pilot program at the Libraries involving the circulation of the iPad2. In total, 10 iPads will be available on loan from the circulation desk between week 6 and finals. These iPads can be checked out starting at 10 AM and must be returned by midnight. They are not available on weekends. Individuals are not required to remain in W. W. Hagerty Library during the loan term but are asked to complete a questionnaire at the completion of their loan period. More information will be available soon.

An iPad loan program will be piloted at Health Sciences Libraries locations during the summer.

Service Spotlight: Status of Online Services Web page

The Libraries is excited to announce a new tool that will help you troubleshoot online services problems. The Status of Online Services page displays a list of online services and a status update, which shows the current status of that tool or service. If the service is experiencing a difficulty, you will know that the issue is a larger problem and the Libraries staff is working to resolve the problem.

If you experience an issue with a tool or service, and there is not a status update identifying a problem or issue with that tool, it is recommended that you clear your cache and browser history and restart your browser. If that does not solve the problem, you can contact the Reference Desk at 215-895-2755 or librarian@drexel.edu.

Library workshops: Reference management tools that are out of cite

Has this ever happened to you?

You found a great source for a paper. You forgot to save it and couldn’t find it again, OR you forgot to save the bibliographic information for the source (title, author, etc.), and you couldn’t write its entry in your paper’s bibliography, OR you saved all your source information, but you struggled to get the formatting correct for the in-text citation and reference section.

For all of the above, we have a few solutions - reference management tools

EndNote, RefWorks, and Zotero are three applications that can help you keep sources organized. Why not take some time to learn how to use these tools, so that you can save time (and frustration) later?

Reference management tools offer features to automatically import reference information, add notes, and generate bibliographies. You know the best part? Using a reference management tool gives you more time to focus on developing your ideas, analyzing your information, and fine-tuning your writing.

The Libraries offers several workshops (online and in person) to help you get started with the different reference management tools we support. So, now is your chance. Register for a session today.

Schedule of workshops

  • Zotero: Feb. 9, 4 to 5:30 PM at W.W. Hagerty Library, room L13-C
  • RefWorks: Feb. 9, 3 to 4:00 PM at Hahnemann Library, NCB 1208
  • RefWorks: Feb. 15, 5 to 6:00 PM at W.W. Hagerty Library, room L13-C
  • RefWorks 2.0: Feb. 15, 7 to 8:00 PM online session
  • EndNote X5: Feb. 14, 4:30 to 6:00 PM at W.W. Hagerty Library, room L13-C
  • EndNote X5: Feb. 16, 7 to 8:00 PM online session
  • EndNote X5 at Hahnemann Library, NCB 1208:
    • Feb. 7, 5 to 6:00 PM
    • Feb. 14, 5 to 6:00 PM
    • Feb. 28, 5 to 6:00 PM
