Find out the connection this Thursday and take part in a conversation on gaming culture.
May 24, 4 to 5 PM
W.W. Hagerty Library, room L-33 (Lower Level)
| Kevin Impellizeri, doctoral candidate in history at the University of Delaware, will discuss his research on a DIY community of programmers who built games for the Bally Astrocade console in the 1980s. From 1978-1986, they published a newsletter before moving to a Usenet group. Visit their online treasure trove for Astrocade enthusiasts at Bally Alley. |
 | Kevin has been tracing the group’s motivations, development, and conversations about ownership production. The case study is a part of Kevin’s larger research project on the history of video games and American culture. A Q&A session and discussion will follow the presentation. |
TechServ and the Libraries is hosting a Google-Fu event
Thursday, February 23 from 6 to 8 PM at the Library Learning Terrace.

Urban Dictionary entry for Google-Fu:
1. The ability to quickly answer any given question using internet resources, such as a search engine
Example: “My google-fu is strong this morning.”
2. The ability to use Google with zen like prowess.
Example: “You couldn’t find it on the web? Dude….your google-fu is weak.”
Test your level of Google-Fu with the game A Google a Day.
Last week, Drexel Libraries invited you to stop by Hagerty and make art books about dragons. We had a great turnout, and now those books are on display, along with some of the books from the library stacks that inspired your creations. Visit the exhibit in Hagerty Library”s first floor atrium at the foot of the stairs.
Can’t make it? View pictures from the event and the exhibit here.
Thanks to all who participated!
Happy Jazz Appreciation Month!
We’re kicking off the swinging month of April with a jazz reception at the Bookmark Café.
Stop by today from 4 to 6, soak up the sounds of the Maxfield Gast Quartet, and have some coffee and candy on us.

Drexel University Libraries are joining in the fun of Welcome Back Week, starting with a bookmaking event on Wednesday, March 31st from 10am to 4pm. Drop by Hagerty’s main entrance and get inspired by dragon images and books from DU Archive’s and Hagerty’s collections. Making a book takes 15 minutes, but the payoff lasts much longer–we’ll add creations from the event to a temporary display. We’ll arrange for you to pick up your book later in the term. And you can still make a book even if you don’t want it on display.
Feeling jazzy? We’re welcoming you back on Thursday, April 1st, and kicking off Jazz Appreciation Month at the same time. Stop by the Bookmark Cafe between 4 and 6pm, have some coffee and candy on us, and enjoy some jazz from the terrific Maxfield Gast Quartet.

We love electronic reference works (and we know you do too), but sometimes the only thing that will do is a book. Reference books have a very long history; learn all about it in a new exhibit from Drexel’s Rare Books Collection displaying historic texts, including the Lexicon of Sextus Pompeius Festus, circa 1622.
Come celebrate our latest exhibit this Wednesday, November 18th from 4-6p.m. on Hagerty’s lower level. All are welcome to the opening celebration, and complimentary refreshments will be served. Visit the University Archives for more information.
Ahoy, mateys!
It’s pirate day in the library. Join us in the lower level for the Drexel University Archives welcome back open house. We’ll be a-yo-ho-ho-ing from 4-6pm this (Friday) afternoon.
Learn about the archives’ booty, and grab some grub while you’re at it.
See you there.
Stop by Hagerty’s lower level on Wednesday afternoon, and you’ll find yourself celebrating Drexel’s past presidents. That’s because Drexel University Archives is holding its opening reception for its latest exhibit, “The Past Personified: A Presidential History of Drexel University.”
When: Wednesday, September 23rd, 4-6pm
Where: Hagerty, lower level
Why: Come for the history. Stay for the snacks.
p.s. don’t forget the archives pirate themed open house, this Friday 4-6pm. More to come, matey!
