Dean's Update: Welcome Back!

September has long felt like the New Year for many of us in academic settings as we prepare to welcome new faces, enthusiastic in beginning their educational journey either as students, faculty or staff at Drexel. We comment on how quickly the last year flew by – even with this summer’s heat – and ring out the old and toast the new.

Appropriately, this issue of In Circulation highlights some of the Libraries’ activities from the past year and the excitement for starting anew.

While preparing to welcome new faculty on behalf of the Libraries, I realized that amidst all we do to support teaching, learning and research, the Libraries consistently strengthens connections on the Drexel campus. Connecting with scholarship is one of the Libraries’ key strategic directions, but really, all of the directions focus on linking people to their intellectual lives – through environments, access and the library organization.

This September issue details the Libraries' latest efforts for connections through the ScholarSip program, work with high school and community college students through WorkReady and Philadelphia Futures, and various Drexel orientation sessions including one for colleagues at the Academy of Natural Sciences.

Two other exciting changes took place in August – a new construction project on the outdoor space at W. W. Hagerty Library and the launch of a new electronic reserves management system, Ares.

Be sure to stop by one of our libraries to learn how we can help you connect to others with similar interests, with information to quell a curiosity or solve a problem, and with a helpful team of Drexel employees eager to share their expertise in information navigation, retrieval and use.
