Please make plans to attend a reception for the exhibition “The Past Personified: a Presidential History of Drexel,” currently on display in the W.W. Hagerty Library (33rd and Market Streets). The reception will take place on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Hollis Godfrey (1874-1936) served as president of the Drexel Institute of Art, Science, and Industry from December 1, 1913, to October 1, 1921, transforming it into a formal collegiate institution.

The Past Personified: a Presidential History of Drexel

The exhibition, curated by Shaun Kirkpatrick, features photographs and documents pertaining to the lives of Drexel's ten full-time occupants in the office of President.  Providing biographical information about each President as well as noting the fundamental changes instituted under their leadership.

The New York Times has an interesting web feature up right now that presents a timeline of all of the presidential Inaugural addresses from 1789 on.  While that is pretty useful in itself, this site is particularly interesting because it shows you a tag cloud of the frequently used words in each speech.  It's a great way to quickly survey the changing language and themes.

To browse the records of the Office of the President during the tenure of Dr. James Creese is to gain an understanding of the Institute’s place in the world as much as it is a view to the development of the Institute itself. Creese sat on the boards of many prominent local institutions and served on numerous government committees at both the state and local levels. On January 11, 1961, Creese presented a statement before the Joint Committee on Unemployment of the Senate and House of Representatives of the Legislature of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
