7 of the 36 computers (almost 20%) on the main floor of the library are "Out of Order." It seems like every time I walk in, another computer has been added to the "Out of Order" list, but none of the previously broken computers have been fixed. Please let us (the students) know who we need to go to in order to get the library the support it needs to make sure ALL computers are working for us. Thank you.

Thank you very much for expressing your concern. We too have been frustrated by an aging public systems infrastructure, and I am delighted to say that we will be replacing the public computers and loaner laptops. We will also be adding new systems for public use by the beginning of the summer. We continue to try to fix the systems on the floor as soon as we possibly can, and we are improving our turnaround times in this regard. Many thanks for your attention and patience in this regard.

Is it possible to have the hot water turned on again to the restrooms? Thanks.

We’re sorry the water in the restrooms has been cold recently. We are working with facilities to adjust the temperature. We appreciate your patience as we do this.

The library needs a new thermostat that regulates air flow in and out on each floor rather than the whole building, as the students are quite perturbed by the 15 degree change when traveling from the 3rd floor to the basement.

Thanks for your suggestion. Replacing or improving environmental systems is costly, of course, and special funding is required for projects of this size. In order to further highlight these needs with the university administrators who must decide which projects will be funded, I will forward your comments along with others to them.

Please put more large study tables instead of individual study cubicles in the basement, second, and third floors.

Renovations are under consideration that would change the mix of furniture in the lower level. This would increase the number of study tables that are available. Please stay tuned for details on whether these renovations will take place.

First, the snacks and coffee provided during finals week was a really nice gesture. Second, the DVD collection for loan is a welcome addition to the library facilities. Third, many suggestions were made about hot water facilities and a microwave in the library. This is probably, in my opinion, due to students studying the whole day and not wanting to get out of the library for food/coffee. Hot water and microwave is much needed. Thanks for a great library!

Thanks for your affirmation. We do our best to serve Drexel’s students! Unfortunately, installing a microwave and providing hot water would be a fire hazard. However, we are investigating the possibility of a 24-hour library café that would have hot water, a microwave, and many other great features. We understand this is a real need for the student population—please stay tuned for details on whether this will be happening.

Tables should be reserved for parties of 2 or more. 10 of the tables by the reserve desk have 1 person each! Meanwhile, most of the single person desks go empty. Groups have nowhere to work!

Thanks for your suggestion. At this time we are unable to reserve public tables for group study. However, group study rooms accommodating 2 to 12 people are available at no charge to all Drexel students. All study rooms have either blackboards or white boards. You can check out the rooms at the Reserve Desk.

Please try not to let people reserve rooms as a means of booking a free motel room... It limits the availability of rooms at this limited library.

Study rooms are available for use by groups of students requiring conversation for group project work or studying. Because this type of work is frequently necessary for completing assignments, cooperation is needed to extend the use of the rooms to as many students as possible. If you feel a group of students is using a room inappropriately, please report the matter to the Reserve Desk.

I would love for the library to invest some money in some new scanners! They are the same ones from when I was an undergrad and I graduated in 2003! Thanks! Also, better scanner software. P.S. The lid on the current scanner is broken!

Why don’t you make the copier machines payable with credit card?

Thanks for your suggestion. We are charged a service charge on credit cards that does not make this feasible, unless you are copying more than $10 worth of materials. If you plan on spending more than $10 on photocopying, please see the Circulation Desk. They will let you use the copier behind the Circulation Desk and they will charge your credit card.

For most patrons, however, we recommend you put money on your DragonCard and use that for your photocopying needs.

Where are cookies and sodas?

Cookies, candy, coffee, and tea were available free of charge during Finals Week from 10pm-1am. We hope you enjoyed these treats!

We also have snack and beverage vending machines in the lower level of Hagerty Library, in the small room adjacent to the computer lab, to provide you with tasty treats during those late night study sessions.
