The New 24-7 Cafe [Hagerty Library]
I eagerly awaited the construction of the 24 hr STUDY center at Hagerty. As I am watching it go up I am concerned to see that it looks much more like a cafe than a study center. Its beautiful do not get me wrong, but will it be the most functional it can be? Does it have enough outlets for laptops? Is it conducive to quiet studying, from my vantage point it looks like a cafe or fast food joint neither of which I consider conducive to studying, hence my presence in our library. Just food for thought. Thanks for everything.
Thank you for your comment about the new 24/7 area in Hagerty Library. We too are eagerly awaiting the new space, and think it will be a great addition to the campus. We anticipated that, during the day, the area would not necessarily be deemed a quiet zone, but rather a place for groups to gather to discuss class work and projects. I would expect that as it gets later into the evenings the room will get progressively quieter as it empties out.
We are planning network jacks and electrical outlets in all the tables and there will be other electrical outlets placed in strategic locations. We are quite aware of students' needs for easy access to power and data outlets.
As we progress with renovations to the rest of Hagerty during the upcoming year, we will be creating additional quiet areas for study in other areas of the library, as we know there is a real need for this type of space as well.
