What time is it? [Hagerty Library]

The clock near room 226 is not working. Please replace it.

Thanks for letting us know. We’ll talk with Facilities to see if we can have it fixed or replaced.

New DVDs [Hagerty Library]

It’s been months since new movies have been added?????

Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, due to several very important projects going on (namely, clearing the third floor!), we have had to slow down the rate at which we’re adding new DVDs to the collection. However, we have recently added 18 new DVDs to the leisure collection and 48 new DVDs to the collection behind the Circulation Desk (Hagerty Reserve DVDs/Videos). Even though the collection behind the Circ Desk isn’t “browsable”, you may still check out the DVDs and take them home. We are currently working on getting new DVDs added, so please look for them soon. As always, if you urgently need a specific title, please see the staff at the Reference Desk who will be happy to assist you in submitting a Rush Cataloging request.

Bike Racks [Hagerty Library]

Bike3.gif

More bike parking.

Thanks for your suggestion. We are aware that there is a shortage of bike racks at the front of the building. We are ordering new bike racks, and they should be installed in the early spring. We’d appreciate your patience for just a little longer. Thanks!

30 Days of Night [Hagerty Library]

30 Days of Night (graphic novel)

Thanks for your suggestion. We are ordering this graphic novel, and we’ll look into ordering the DVD as well when it’s released later this month.

Foreign Language CDs & Audio Books [Hagerty Library]

You guys should consider getting language CD’s so students studying foreign languages can have other resources outside of class. And books on tape and/or CDs too, for people who want to listen to something while they’re bored at their co-op jobs.

Thanks for your suggestions. We will certainly consider adding foreign language CDs or software for the future. In the meantime, students enrolled in language courses are welcome to visit the Language Lab (http://www.drexel.edu/coas/culturecomm/lang/languagelab.asp). We also encourage using LiveMocha (http://www.livemocha.com), a free, web-based language learning and language exchange site.

We are currently evaluating the possibility of adding an audio books collection, so stay tuned for more details. It’s always nice to hear that there’s interest. Keep the suggestions coming!

Late Night Breakfast [Hagerty Library]

Please put accurate information on your flyers. Your so-called “Breakfast Event until Midnight” barely lasted until 10pm. Disappointing! This doesn’t motivate me to visit the new café! BAD PLANNING!

We’re sorry to hear you were disappointed with the Late Night Breakfast that was sponsored by The Office of Campus Activities and Hagerty Library. We will look into what happened with this event and see if we can avoid such inconveniences in the future.

Pencils @ The Suggestion Box [Hagerty Library]

Pencil.jpg

Better pencils for the suggestion slips. Maybe a sharpener? Thanks.

Thanks for your suggestion. I put out some new pencils at the suggestion box, and I will be sure to make sure they are sharpened on a regular basis.

Maple on Computers [Hagerty Library]

Please update Maple. The permission is expired.

Maple 11 is on all the public systems already, although Maple 10 has not yet been removed. Our apologies for the confusion—we will work on removing the old software shortly.

Construction during exams [Hagerty Library]

Don’t have construction during exam week in library.

Thanks for your suggestion. The construction manager is aware of the final exam schedule, so we will make sure construction will not be an issue during that time. We apologize for having to construct the scaffolding in the atrium during midterms this week—we will plan ahead for the Spring Term’s midterms.

DragonCard Sticker [Hagerty Library]

08.gif

What’s the point of the ID scanning machine if we have to show our IDs anyway to the security person to check for a ’08 sticker?

Thanks for your question. Drexel requires that students have an ’08 sticker on their DragonCard. Since the library is a significant point of contact with the student population, the university has requested that our Public Safety check DragonCards for the ’08 sticker. Students without an ’08 sticker will be given one after they successfully gain entrance to the library using their DragonCard. The ’08 sticker is also very useful for getting student discounts wherever student discounts are honored.

Pathologies of Power [Hagerty Library]

Pathologies of Power.jpg

Please get a paper copy of Dr. Paul Farmer’s book Pathologies of Power.

Thanks for your suggestion. We do have an electronic copy of this book http://tinyurl.com/ytz9q8, but I will order a print copy as well.

Power Strips in Café [Hagerty Library]

Can we get some power strips in the 24/7 room where the desktops are? When the tables are full or when you just want to sit in the more comfortable chairs in the middle of the room, there are no plugs available and the only two plugs even remotely close are used entirely by the desktop/monitor. This usually leads to someone unplugging them. Power strips would solve this problem.

Thanks for your suggestion. We agree that additional power strips would be a benefit to the students. We’ll talk with Systems and Facilities to see if it’s possible to add them.

Urinal Cakes [Hagerty Library]

Urinal cakes?

Thank you for your suggestion. We will talk with Facilities to see if it is possible to get some urinal deodorizers for the restrooms.

Animals in the Library [Hagerty Library]

Goat.jpg

Emu.jpg

As a student originally from the countryside I used to study as a child up in my Pa’s hayloft above our two cows and six sheep. I found the setting to be quite serene and helpful in getting my word done. Would you consider perhaps adding a few barnyard animals and a few bricks of hay to some quiet corner of the library so I can get some work done?

Thanks for your excellent suggestion. We are currently conducting interviews with numerous cows, sheep, and goats (and yes, even an emu) to determine which creatures will fit in best with the quiet environment of the library. So far the best candidate is a rather studious goat. As for the hay, while that might add a certain ambiance, we’re afraid that might adversely affect those with allergies. Stay tuned for more details…

But seriously, thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, at this time we’re unable to provide this quite personalized study space. But we hope you will enjoy our new Bookmark Café!

Quiet Study Space Needed [Hagerty Library]

Why does the library have to be a center for social gatherings? PLEASE make the new 24/7 room a “QUIET AREA”. (Without the third floor, there isn’t enough quiet space.)

Thanks for your suggestion. We have created a new quiet study space in the glassed-in room in the Lower Level. That area has been revamped to feature study carrels. At this time, we are unable to make the Bookmark Café a quiet study space. The Café was designed with group study in mind, thus the booth seating, bold colors, and food service. If you have a specific concern at any time, feel free to see the staff at the Circulation Desk. Thanks for your understanding.

More Recommended Titles [Hagerty Library]

The Dark Tower series by Stephen King and The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan.

Thanks for your suggestions. We do have several books in the Dark Tower series available in both the leisure collection and online as electronic books. Please check in the catalog or go here to see exactly which ones: http://tinyurl.com/396qb4.

To get the other books in the Dark Tower series or the Wheel of Time series, I recommend you use E-Z Borrow, which links from the library’s homepage. Books ordered through E-Z Borrow take about 3-5 business days to arrive—you will be notified via email when they are ready to pick up at the Circulation Desk. We hope you enjoy reading these books!

Recommended Books [Hagerty Library]

Can we get the first 3 books (Point of Impact, Black Light, Time to Hunt) of Stephen Hunter’s Bob Lee Swagger/Shooter series? We have the 4th book (47th Samurai) but not the first 3.

Thanks for your question. Our Leisure Reading collection is for newly released books. Since the books you’ve requested are a few years old, I recommend you order them via E-Z Borrow, which links from the library’s homepage. Books ordered through E-Z Borrow take about 3-5 business days to arrive—you will be notified via email when they are ready to pick up at the Circulation Desk. We hope you enjoy reading these books!

Microwave is Dirty [Hagerty Library]

microwave.jpg

Please clean microwave.

Thanks for letting us know that the microwave is dirty. We'll make sure it gets cleaned shortly.

Café Hours [Hagerty Library]

Keep the Café open longer please!!

Thanks for your suggestion. We agree that having the Bookmark Café open longer would be a great benefit to the students. We will be periodically evaluating the Café's hours, and perhaps we will stay open longer in the future. Whenever the Café is closed, we encourage you to use the vending machines that are available.

February 16, 2008

ATM in Bookmark Café [Hagerty Library]

Could you please put an ATM into the new 24-hour room? Thanks!

Thanks for your suggestion. We will look into this and see if it is feasible. In the meantime, here's a list of local ATMs: http://www.drexel.edu/rlo/Conferences/FAQ.asp#Banks. The closest location is at the Creese Student Center.

Printing with Flex Dollars [Hagerty Library]

Is this not a Drexel facility?? Then why ON EARTH can't I use flex dollars to print?! Absolute stupidity!!

Thanks for your question. The library is currently set up to print only using Ultima Funds. If you don't have any Ultima Funds on your DragonCard, you can always add them either at the library or at the DragonCard Office. We will look into the possibility of allowing printing with flex dollars.

Electrical Outlets in Lower Level [Hagerty Library]

Electrical Outlet.jpg

I get that there is construction downstairs, but why do ALL of the outlets in basement not work?!? Kinda makes it hard to work when your computer dies after an hour. Please fix! Thanks.

We're sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. We have contacted the electrician, and they will see what can be done about this problem. Thanks for your patience as we work to get this resolved.

Get more books, not more DVDs [Hagerty Library]

Why are we buying DVDs when we don’t even have a decent collection of books? If students want DVDs they should go to a video library. Most of my recent projects/leisure reading books must come from other libraries. Disappointing.

We are sorry to hear you’ve had a difficult time getting the resources you need here at Hagerty. We strive to meet a variety of needs, and the DVDs are useful both for class and for relaxation. Is there any specific area of books that you would like us to develop further? We are always more than happy to listen to suggestions for new books, research or leisure-related. You may not be aware that we have a collection of leisure books on the first floor—this collection is filled with recently-published fiction and nonfiction works, including many bestsellers. We hope you’ll check it out soon. And please do contact us with any recommended titles.

February 14, 2008

Bike Racks [Hagerty Library]

Bike racks.

Thanks for your suggestion. We are aware that there is a shortage of bike racks at the front of the building. We are ordering new bike racks, and they should be installed in the early spring. We’d appreciate your patience for just a little longer. Thanks!

Reminders & Late Fees [Hagerty Library]

Late.jpg

Maybe you should send people emails before their books/DVD is due instead of after when they will have to pay a late fee. A little reminder is always nice!!

Thanks for your suggestion. We do send out courtesy emails for books 5 days before they are due. Unfortunately, our computer system does not allow us to send out courtesy notices for DVDs as well. But the loan period for DVDs is only 5 days, so we hope you would remember to return them! As always, you can check your library record at any time from the library’s homepage (http://www.library.drexel.edu/). Just click on “Check MY Library Record” under “Services”—that will tell you what materials you have checked out and when they’re due back. You can also renew materials there. Hope this helps to clear up any confusion.

Third Floor Furniture [Hagerty Library]

I miss the tables on the third level. Can we array some tables in the empty spaces on the second level? Just until we have the third floor back?

Thanks for your great suggestion. We are in the process of distributing the furniture from the third floor throughout the rest of the building. So you should see tables and chairs popping up in new places. Enjoy!

Chairs for Computers [Hagerty Library]

Chairs for the second floor computers!

There are now stools at each of the four computers on the second floor. Hope this helps!

Audio Books [Hagerty Library]

Audio Book.jpg

Some audio books added to the library will be very useful.

Thanks for your suggestion. We are currently evaluating the possibility of adding an audio books collection. It’s always nice to hear that there’s interest. Stay tuned for more details…

February 12, 2008

EndNote [Hagerty Library]

EndNote.gif

It would be nice if the computers had EndNote on them (unless I just picked exceptions in L13, L14, and 1st floor research computers).

Thanks for asking. All of our public PCs do indeed have EndNote on them. It should be available to you right on the desktop.

Volume on Computers [Hagerty Library]

Is it possible to change the computers in Room L13 so that the volume can be controlled from the volume (mixer) icon when a user utilizes headphones? Thank you.

We apologize for overlooking that. We are working to restore that as quickly as possible.

February 11, 2008

Photoshop [Hagerty Library]

Please install Photoshop on some of the library computers.

Thanks for asking. While this would be a nice addition, our scanners and computers are for basic scanning work only. We aren't able to support higher end graphics functionality here in the library yet. Sorry!

Printing in the Library [Hagerty Library]

printer.jpg

The printer by the ground level computers is quite old and noisy. The noise is very distracting to those studying. Please invest in a new LaserJet.

Thanks for your great suggestion. You'll be happy to know new copiers and printers have indeed been ordered and should be in place within a few weeks.

Word Equation Editor 3.0 [Hagerty Library]

It's better to install Equation Editor in Word for all machines in the first floor.

Thank you for asking. All systems do already have MS Word Equation Editor 3.0 installed. If you go into Word's Insert Object Menu, you'll see Equations 3 as an option. Enjoy!

February 08, 2008

Career Library Move [Hagerty Library]

Why would you move the career library? How are students on co-op (who have a lot of time on time on the weekends) supposed to access the newest/best books when we can’t get into 3201 Arch during the weekend? That was a bad and very disappointing decision.

Thanks for your question. Items in the Career Library’s circulating collection can be requested and delivered to Hagerty where you can check them out at your convenience. Just find the book that you want in the library’s catalog, and click “Request Item” in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. It takes 1-2 business days to have the book delivered to Hagerty Library. We hope you take advantage of this new feature.

Google Toolbar [Hagerty Library]

Google Toolbar.gif

Please uninstall Google toolbar on the PCs. It is annoying, and it disables normal functions of IE, like edit--find.

Thanks for your suggestion. We'll take this into consideration, but so far this is the only request we've had to remove the Google toolbar. Most people seem to enjoy having it available. Thanks for pointing out that the Google toolbar disables normal functioning in IE—we'll investigate whether there's a workaround for that.

Movie Recommendations [Hagerty Library]

Movies that make us think:

1. What the Bleep Do We Know?
2. Pi
3. 2046
4. I [Heart] Huckabees

Any of these would be great to have in the library. Thanks.

Thanks for your great suggestions. We are already ordering Pi and I [Heart] Huckabees. I will add the other titles to the list of requested DVDs.

February 03, 2008

Stranger Than Fiction [Hagerty Library]

Stranger Than Fiction.jpg

You should get Stranger Than Fiction for DVD.

Thanks for your suggestion. Good news: we already have Stranger Than Fiction! It's in the leisure DVD collection along the walls on the first floor.

February 02, 2008

Amelie [Hagerty Library]

Amelie.jpg

Amelie.

Thanks for your suggestion. You'll be happy to learn that we already have Amelie. It's in the leisure DVD collection along the walls on the first floor. Happy viewing!
