Putting DVDs on Hold [Hagerty Library]

Please open an online reserve DVD service so that students won't miss their favorite DVDs.

Thanks for your recommendation. Unfortunately, we are unable to allow patrons to place holds on DVDs from the catalog. Some DVDs are circulating up to 3 times a day, so we don’t want to limit their circulation by enabling holds. If you absolutely need a DVD for a class assignment or some other urgent concern, please see the staff at the circulation desk and they can help you with reserving this DVD. Thanks for your understanding.

Hot, hot, hot! [Hagerty Library]

Hot.jpg

Why is the building so hot?

Thanks for your question. Due to the change in seasons, it’s been difficult to regulate the temperature recently. Most of the air handlers are now on and the rest are currently being worked on so that they can be operational soon. Facilities is also visiting all buildings on campus and turning on the chillers—hopefully they’ll be visiting us soon! Thanks for your patience as we get these issues sorted out.

Lighting in the Bookmark Café [Hagerty Library]

The lighting illumination in the 24-hour Bookmark Café is yellow. I feel that it is uncomfortable for putting in long hours of studying and reading which is what the café is built for. If I am the only one who feels that it is uncomfortable, please let me know. I will try to seek out a solution--perhaps see a psychologist.

Thanks for expressing your concern over the warm lighting in the Bookmark Café. There are other types of lighting scattered throughout the building (natural and fluorescent), so feel free to move around to different spaces in the building to see what works best for you. We appreciate your feedback on the lighting in the Bookmark Café and will keep it in mind as we plan renovations for the rest of the building.

Water Fountain [Hagerty Library]

Water Fountain.jpg

Water fountain in the 24-hour area.

Thanks for your suggestion. We have provided vending machines, and the cafe will provide water. But we will consider adding a water fountain as well.

Quiet Study Room [Hagerty Library]

Have you been to the "quiet study area" in the basement where the stairs end? It's pretty quiet... if you can omit the incessant dinging of the gate where everyone scans their badge.... And the wireless power in this room is very poor; I have never gotten above a "fair" signal strength in this room. This room feels like a giant red herring.

Thanks for expressing your concern. We were unaware that it is possible to hear the security gate from the quiet room. We will talk with Facilities and the architects to see if there is a solution to this problem. As always, ear plugs are available at the circulation desk. As for the Internet, IRT recently upgraded the wireless connections here at Hagerty, but unfortunately they are still pretty variable. Honestly, they probably will be until the construction in the building is done this summer, at which point IRT has promised to do another mapping of our building and upgrade the wireless connectivity if needed. Thanks for your patience as we sort these issues out.

Textbook Request [Hagerty Library]

Microeconomics.jpg

Please add Microeconomics, 2nd edition (Hubbard and O'Brien) to reserve list. Thanks! From ECON 201-003.

Thanks for your suggestion. We are rush ordering this book, so we're hoping it will be available at the reserve desk by sometime this week.

Group Study Rooms [Hagerty Library]

Extend study hall room time slots.

Thanks for your suggestion. When checking out a group study room, keep in mind that you can renew that room as long as all the rooms are not currently booked. Additionally, we are considering alternative ways for best utilizing the group study rooms. Please stay tuned for more details...

Noise, Laptops, and Trees...Oh My! [Hagerty Library]

I understand the lower level glassed in room is a quiet room. However, this is insufficient quiet space. The café provides plenty of group space (along with the group study rooms), so I suggest making the entire lower level a quiet area. You need new laptops. I pay $20,000 a year here—there is funding somewhere. Otherwise, good job, but get the tree back.

Thanks for your recommendations. Due to Drexel’s heavy focus on group projects, we are committed to providing as much group study space as possible. However, we understand that students need quiet study space as well—to meet this need we have dedicated the second floor and the glassed in room in the lower level as quiet study space. Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to make the entire lower level quiet study space. As for the laptops, 20 of our 30 circulating laptops are less than a year old. In order to increase the number we could lend out, we kept 10 of the older models in circulation. We are actively seeking funding to upgrade these as well. We appreciate your patience in this matter. We miss the greenery, too, but we’re not sure what the future plans are once renovations are finished!

Computer Date & Time [Hagerty Library]

Date and Time.png

Could you please fix the four computers on the second floor of the library? The dates and times are wrong and one or two of them say the security certificate won’t be valid until 2-08 (which I imagine is linked to the date/time problem). Thanks.

Thanks for letting us know that the dates & times are wrong on our public access computers. We are looking into this problem and hope to have it resolved soon. Thanks for your patience.

Logging onto the Computers [Hagerty Library]

Computer2.jpg

When I log in it would be nice if it also logged me into DrexelOne. No?

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, logging into a computer profile is not the same as logging into web-based DrexelOne. There really is no workaround for this. We hope you’ll view it as an added layer of security!

Stuffy in the Café [Hagerty Library]

Fan.jpg

The Bookmark Café is a wonderful idea (comfy chairs, relaxed setting, 24 hours). Yet whenever I am inside, I have difficulty focusing, because there is so little ventilation. Is there anything the school can do about it? Turn up the air, install fans throughout, etc?

Thanks for your suggestion. Moderating the temperature and airflow has been very difficult recently, especially because of the change in seasons. We are working with Facilities to improve airflow in the Bookmark Café, and we ask for your patience as we sort out these issues. Thanks!

Lost Years of Merlin [Hagerty Library]

Lost Years of Merlin.jpg

Please look into getting the T.A. Barron series “Lost Years of Merlin”.

Thanks for your recommendations. I suggest you use E-Z Borrow (which links from the library’s homepage) to obtain these books. Books ordered through E-Z Borrow take about 3-5 business days to arrive—you will be notified via email when they are ready to pick up at the Circulation Desk. We hope you enjoy reading this series!

Book Requests [Hagerty Library]

Please get the following books: Twilight, Haveli, and Bringing Down the House.

Thanks for your recommendations. Our leisure collection is for newly-published books and since these books are a few years old, I suggest you use E-Z Borrow (which links from the library’s homepage) to obtain these books. Books ordered through E-Z Borrow take about 3-5 business days to arrive—you will be notified via email when they are ready to pick up at the Circulation Desk. We hope you enjoy reading these books!

Booth Seating [Hagerty Library]

Bookmark Cafe2.gif

Please reserve booths for groups. Too many booths are occupied by one person.

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to restrict booths to group use only. Seating in the café is available on a first-come first-serve basis. If at any time you have a specific concern, feel free to see the staff at the circulation desk.

Printing Costs Too Much!! [Hagerty Library]

Why do printouts cost $0.25 from the counter but only $0.10 with a DragonCard?

Thanks for your question. If for some reason you can't pay with the Ultima Funds on your DragonCard, printouts cost $0.25 per page due to the extra staff time required. Our circulation desk is very busy, and it's easier on all of us if printing is self-service. Thanks for your understanding!

Books on Course Reserve [Hagerty Library]

Clock3.jpg

If the Bookmark Café is open 24/7 now, can you please allow reserve textbooks to be taken out all night as well? (During finals/midterms, 2am is pretty early!)

Thanks for your question. We agree that it would be beneficial for students to have reserve books overnight, especially during finals, and we are currently in discussion about this issue. Unfortunately, we cannot provide more details at this time, but please stay turned for more information.

Great job! [Hagerty Library]

The new website is very nice. I think the services here have been great (and improving) for the 5 years I have been here!

We’re very glad to hear you like the new website. Our staff has put a lot of time and energy into creating it, so they’ll be encouraged to hear the positive feedback. Glad to hear the services we offer are great (and improving)—that’s just what we like to hear!

The Time Traveler’s Wife [Hagerty Library]

TimeTravelersWife.jpg

Could you please get the book The Time Traveler’s Wife? Thank you. :-)

Thanks for your recommendation. Our leisure collection is for newly-published books and since this book is a few years old, I suggest you use E-Z Borrow (which links from the library’s homepage) to obtain this book. A book ordered through E-Z Borrow takes about 3-5 business days to arrive—you will be notified via email when it is ready to pick up at the Circulation Desk. We hope you enjoy reading this book!

DVD Requests [Hagerty Library]

You requested it—We already have it! These movies are located in the Leisure DVD collection along the walls on the first floor.

1. Sin City
2. Transformers
3. Frank Herbert’s Dune.

All other requested movies have been added to our list of recommended titles. Keep the suggestions coming!

Buffy Books [Hagerty Library]

Buffy.jpg

You should get all the Buffy books!

Thanks for your recommendations. Since there are a LOT of Buffy books, I suggest you use E-Z Borrow (which links from the library’s homepage) to obtain these books. Books ordered through E-Z Borrow take about 3-5 business days to arrive—you will be notified via email when they are ready to pick up at the Circulation Desk. We hope you enjoy reading these books!

Laurell K. Hamilton Books [Hagerty Library]

Please get the books Bloody Bones, Incubus Dreams, and Micah—all are by Laurell K. Hamilton. In May, her new book Blood Noir will be out, so if you could get that too, that’d be great. Oh, and all of the graphic novels that go with the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series.

Thanks for your recommendations. Our leisure collection is for newly-published books, so we will be happy to order Blood Noir when it is published (provided it is available from our vendor). To get the other books and graphic novels, I recommend you use E-Z Borrow, which links from the library’s homepage. Books ordered through E-Z Borrow take about 3-5 business days to arrive—you will be notified via email when they are ready to pick up at the Circulation Desk. We do already have a number of books by Laurell K. Hamilton, so feel free to check those out as well: http://tinyurl.com/2akzlo. We hope you enjoy reading these books!

Construction in the Library [Hagerty Library]

I think it is very inconsiderate that construction is being done on the third floor. I don't know what Drexel was thinking. Having ear plugs was a poor excuse for fixing the problem. They should have waited or at least stop working until next term.

We apologize for any inconvenience the third floor construction has caused. Unfortunately, we are on a tight construction schedule, so pausing construction during finals week proved impossible. We did ask that construction crew keep noise down as much as possible during finals, and, for the most part, we think they did a good job. In addition to ear plugs, there is also a new quiet study space in the glassed-in room in the Lower Level. We hope you will take advantage of this space as this is potentially the quietest area in the building. We appreciate your patience as we renovate the third floor. As always, please bring any immediate concerns to the Circulation Desk.

Slow Wireless Internet [Hagerty Library]

Laptop2.bmp

Hello, I am a laptop computer. I like to go fast on the internet. But I become sad when I am in this library, because the internet here is absurdly slow.

Dear Laptop Computer, IRT recently upgraded the wireless connections here at Hagerty, but unfortunately they are still pretty variable. Honestly, they probably will be until the construction in the building is done this summer, at which point IRT has promised to do another mapping of our building and upgrade the wireless connectivity if needed. Thanks for your patience as we sort these issues out.

Java on Laptops [Hagerty Library]

Could you please install Java on all of the laptops? All the desktops have it but when working in groups it’s easier to use laptops.

Thanks for your suggestion. Java is indeed on all of the laptops already, but we will try to make it more apparent to the user. Thanks for pointing that out.

Printing costs too much!! [Hagerty Library]

Dollar Sign.jpg

Why do we have to pay $0.10 or $0.25 for printouts?!!! We should at least have a printer with free ink and we bring the papers. Or assign every student a quota of 200 pages per term, for example. All schools around have that!!!

Thanks for your suggestion. While we agree that free printing for students would be an added benefit, we currently do not have the funding we would need to provide this service. The hardware and software costs, maintenance, and supplies for printers and copiers actually cost the libraries a lot of money. If we did not recoup those costs, then the libraries would have less money to spend on books, electronic resources, laptops for loan, new workstations, and so on. For now, though we understand your desire for free printing, the libraries could not take on this cost without University support and funding. We do encourage you to use your DragonCard, however, as that saves you time and money!

Café or Shelter? [Hagerty Library]

Bookmark Cafe.gif

Every time I step in the 24-hour café I feel like I've walked into a homeless shelter. Is there any way, besides having students respect their surroundings, to keep it looking respectable?

Thanks for your question. We do hope students will respect their surroundings and clean up after themselves as much as possible. We do have Facilities staff regularly circulate through the Bookmark Café to make sure everything is clean, but we will ask them if they can monitor this room more closely.

April 01, 2008

Dust in the Wind [Hagerty Library]

Computers, printers, shelves, and circulation desk should be at least dusted off for a clean atmosphere.

Thanks for your suggestion. We will speak with Facilities and ask them to do a more thorough cleaning. During construction, there’s always a lot of dust floating around, so it’s difficult to keep things completely clean. Thanks for your patience!

Scanner/Copiers [Hagerty Library]

Copier.jpg

Students are using the scanners to copy multiple chapters from the reserve texts. This is problematic because it is very time consuming and prevents others from using the scanner/copier.

Thanks for letting us know. Sometime in the coming weeks, we will be installing new copiers in the library—all these copiers are also equipped with the “Scan to Email” function. These additional copiers should alleviate this problem. Until we install the new machines, there are two scanners located in Room L14 in the Lower Level for your convenience.
