The Café Door

Since the reopening of the café several people have asked us about the procedures on entering and exiting from the main Hagerty building:

The protocol when leaving the café is completely ridiculous. I do not want to be hassled by having to show my ID.

The new policy of having to scan into the Bookmark Café is ridiculous and time consuming. Why scan in twice? Also why scan out while leaving? It’s very frustrating to follow these mindless procedures.

Thanks for commenting. When the café’s 33rd Street door is unlocked, the café entrance to the library is a public entrance, and so we must scan all IDs to protect the library and students. The way the scanner system works, in order to scan people coming in, we must also scan people coming out. When the 33rd Street door is locked (before 11am and after 5pm) the cafe door to the library is open, and there’s no need to scan your card during library hours. We know this is not the most convenient, and we appreciate your cooperation in treating this entrance like a public door from 11am-5pm.

Thanks for the Compliment!

What a tremendous resource! There has been NO occasion where I was looking for an article and could not find it pretty quickly via the Hagerty on-line resources! Thank you for making such an awsome system available to us.

Why, thank you! Providing the Drexel community with user-friendly access to information is an important part of our mission here at Drexel Libraries. We love to hear when we’re doing well.

Library Tree

Please bring back the tree that was in the lobby. It was beautiful and studies show that people are happier around plants.

Thanks for the suggestion. We miss the tree—it made us happy too. When building renovations began, we removed the tree to protect it. Renovations continue and are ongoing. We are considering new plans for greenery throughout the building, but, because of the renovation schedule, we will not be implementing them for another year or so.

Mice With Your Fries?

We’ve had some commentary of late about recent food rule enforcement.

Since you’ve taken away the only place where students can eat in Hagerty due to construction, will there be a temporary location for hungry studious students? Before the café, the basement was designated as the food area. Can we reinstate the basement as a designated food area temporarily? Summer students get hungry while studying too. Plus, we pay tuition.

Please let us eat here. It’s no fair that us summer students always get the short end of the stick. Give us some slack until you reopen the café.

Thanks for the suggestions. We know this is frustrating. Many fondly recall the days when Hagerty library allowed people to eat entire meals wherever they wanted in the library. The direct consequence was a less savory memory: varmints.

As we all know, the only way to detract bugs, mice, and worse, is to not feed them. Facilities like the Bookmark Café and other food-friendly lounges have the staff to clean up what hungry students leave behind. As a library, Hagerty just doesn’t have those resources.

We recognize that summer students are just as important as students in other terms. This is why we want to keep the library clean and safe during summer—the season when leftover food most quickly turns into a stinky jackpot for pests. To combat your hunger, we’ve compiled a list, found at the end of this blog post of places where you can eat your meal on campus. And don’t forget that we are still allowing snacks and covered drinks into the building.

Library tote bags: not just for loan anymore

I like your loaner library bags. Could they be sold as a fundraiser?

We love this idea and we are looking into selling them in the near future. Thanks for the suggestion!

When is my book due? [Hagerty Library]

I think it would be a good idea if we could either get a paper receipt or an email when we check out DVDs/books as a reminder and not just receive an email before due date.

Thanks for your suggestion. We are trying to be as “green” as we possibly can, and unfortunately printing out a paper receipt every time a patron checks out an item would not be very “green” of us! However, the circulation staff will gladly stamp the date due slip in the back of the book for you if you ask them to. So next time, just ask, and we’d be happy to oblige. Additionally, our DVD cases are equipped with slips that let you know when it is due depending on what day of the week you checked it out. Also, don’t forget that you can check your library record online anytime from the library website to check when something is due (as well as renew books!).

Dragon Dollars for Printing [Hagerty Library]

DragonCards have limited liquidity. I do not want to put money on them, ever. Offer credit/debit payment options.

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer credit/debit payment options for printing at the library. If you prefer to use cash, you can pay at the Circulation Desk, but please note that the charge will be $0.25 per page instead of $0.10. If you do add money to your DragonCard at the library, please note that this money is added in the form of Dragon Dollars and can actually be used in many places throughout University City. See the full list of retail stores for details.

Hot, hot, hot! [Hagerty Library]

Hot.jpg

Why is the building so hot?

Thanks for your question. Due to the change in seasons, it’s been difficult to regulate the temperature recently. Most of the air handlers are now on and the rest are currently being worked on so that they can be operational soon. Facilities is also visiting all buildings on campus and turning on the chillers—hopefully they’ll be visiting us soon! Thanks for your patience as we get these issues sorted out.
