Put the DVDs in some kind of order (alphabetical, call number, etc.). Right now there is no organization system and it makes it difficult to find a specific title (other than by browsing through all the titles at random).

Thank you for your suggestion. We recommend you check the library’s catalog to see if a particular DVD is checked out before you browse through the collection to find it. Also, not all our DVDs are on display—some are kept on reserve and need to be requested at the circulation desk.

While we agree that an organizational system would be helpful in locating a particular title, the DVDs circulate far too often to warrant this kind of organization. Some DVDs are circulating up to 3 times a day! So it’s difficult to constantly keep reorganizing these titles. We’ll keep your suggestion in mind, and we may decide to provide better organization for the browsing DVD collection in the future.

The computers on the second floor are constantly taken up by people checking their e-mail so that one can’t look up a book. Can we have at least one computer dedicated entirely to book look-up (since this is a library after all)?

Thanks for your suggestion. This summer we are starting on some renovations that will mean many more computers in the atrium areas of the second and third floors. We will also be reinstalling computers on the look-up stands scattered around the stacks on the second and third floors. We hope you enjoy the new computers!

Why don’t you have the library open overnight?

You’ll be happy to hear that Hagerty Library will be open 24 hours a day during Week 10 and Exam Week of this Spring Term! Starting 7:30am on Wednesday, June 6, Hagerty will remain open 24 hours until the end of the exam period at 10:00pm on Saturday, June 16. We hope you’ll take full advantage of these extended hours as you prepare for your exams.

Also, Hagerty Library will be starting renovations this summer. The renovation plans include a new 24/7 café. We’re all excited about this new addition to the library!

Where is there a place that I could go and use a computer to practice a foreign language (BbVista/WebCT lab work) so that I would not be bothering everyone around me?!

This is a great question! We recommend you use the Assistive Technologies Room on the first floor of Hagerty Library, provided no one else is using the room. If you need help locating this room, please ask at the Reference Desk.

The bicycle racks outside of the library are full. More racks are needed to provide space for those who commute by bicycle. Supporting bicycle transportation is important for the city and for the University. When the racks are full or near capacity it is more likely that the bikes will be damaged as other bikes are added or removed from the crowded rack.

Security came by today and we are going to remove two abandoned bikes. As part of the renovations to the library we are considering adding more bike racks. It is important that we consider the placement of new fixtures like this in light of the big renovation picture, so please stay tuned for more details.
