The New 24-7 Cafe [Hagerty Library]

I eagerly awaited the construction of the 24 hr STUDY center at Hagerty. As I am watching it go up I am concerned to see that it looks much more like a cafe than a study center. Its beautiful do not get me wrong, but will it be the most functional it can be? Does it have enough outlets for laptops? Is it conducive to quiet studying, from my vantage point it looks like a cafe or fast food joint neither of which I consider conducive to studying, hence my presence in our library. Just food for thought. Thanks for everything.

Thank you for your comment about the new 24/7 area in Hagerty Library. We too are eagerly awaiting the new space, and think it will be a great addition to the campus.

We anticipated that, during the day, the area would not necessarily be deemed a quiet zone, but rather a place for groups to gather to discuss class work and projects. I would expect that as it gets later into the evenings the room will get progressively quieter as it empties out.

We are planning network jacks and electrical outlets in all the tables and there will be other electrical outlets placed in strategic locations. We are quite aware of students’ needs for easy access to power and data outlets.

As we progress with renovations to the rest of Hagerty during the upcoming year, we will be creating additional quiet areas for study in other areas of the library, as we know there is a real need for this type of space as well.

What’s Wrong With Matlab? [Hagerty Library]

Fix Matlab 7.4 on basement computers.

After testing Matlab on the lower level computers, we can’t find anything wrong with them. Can you be more specific as to the problem you are experiencing? Thanks!

Smelly Restrooms [Hagerty Library]

The flush in the men’s restroom on floor 1 is not working. It becomes smelly in there. Kindly fix it. Thanks.

I am sorry to hear the men’s restroom on the first floor is having problems with flushing. I have reported this problem to facilities—they will be here shortly to address the problem. Thanks for alerting us to this.

New Chairs [Hagerty Library]

Those red “C” things are the worst chairs ever.

Thanks for your comment. These chairs are on loan temporarily to see what student responses are. So, I guess we have your opinion. :-)

It’s so cold!! [Hagerty Library]

Cold.jpg

Can the temperature be increased, please? It’s always so cold in here! I’m going to go sit out in the sun and study. Thanks.

Thanks for your suggestion. We have been working with facilities to monitor the temperature, and it should improve. It takes a balancing act for these large buildings, but we do monitor the temperature and make changes as soon as we can.

More Graphic Novels, Please! [Hagerty Library]

Buy more comics and graphic novels.

Thanks for your suggestion. We do our best to purchase 3-4 new comics/graphic novels every month for the leisure reading collection on the first floor. Please let us know if you’re looking for a title that we don’t have, and we will be happy to add that to the collection.

Leisure Reading [Hagerty Library]

You Suck.jpg

Your leisure reading section is weak. Forget DVDs and pump that section up a bit. Get some more Christopher Moore books.

We’re sorry to hear you’ve been disappointed in the quality of our leisure reading collection. Thank you for recommending books by Christopher Moore—we will make sure to get his books in the future. In the meantime, we do have You Suck: A Love Story. Additionally, I will try to order A Dirty Job: A Novel, but there’s no guarantee on whether we can get a hold of his older books. Thanks for your suggestion, and please let us know if there are any other books you’d like to see on the shelves.

Engineering Textbooks [Hagerty Library]

Engineering Textbook.jpg

Please get the following textbooks for reserve. Thank you.
• Logic & Comp. Design Fundamentals, 4th ed. (ECE 200)
• Intro to Engineering Experimentations, 2nd ed. (ENGR 201)
• LabView 8, Student Ed. (ENGR 201)
• Linear Algebra by Anthony J. Wheeler (ENGR 231)

Thank you for your suggestions.

• Logic & Comp. Design Fundamentals, 4th ed. (ECE 200): I am ordering the 4th edition to put on course reserve. In the meantime, we already have copies of the 2nd and 3rd editions on course reserve.
• Intro to Engineering Experimentations, 2nd ed. (ENGR 201): The professor has two copies of this book on course reserve. I am ordering a copy so the library will have its own copy on course reserve.
• LabView 8, Student Ed. (ENGR 201): The professor placed his personal copy of this book on course reserve, and that is currently available. I am ordering a copy so the library will have its own copy on course reserve.
• Linear Algebra by Anthony J. Wheeler (ENGR 231): I was unable to find this book through any of our vendors. After checking with the bookstore, I think you meant Linear Algebra and Its Applications by David C. Lay. The library has the professor’s personal copy on reserve, but I am ordering a copy so the library will have its own copy on course reserve.

I am rush ordering all these books, which means they will hopefully be available next week. Check back soon to see if they’re in!
