Change at the Speed of Light [Hagerty Library]

Please do not change the website just for the sake of change.

Thanks for your comment. We agree that the library website has undergone some major changes in the past 6 months, but these changes have been made in an effort to increase ease of use. We would like our website to be as self-explanatory as possible, and thus we are conducting usability studies on the website. These usability studies are impacting our website design. If you would like to be involved in the change process, we would appreciate your help. Please see here to get involved.

Dragon Dollars for Printing [Hagerty Library]

DragonCards have limited liquidity. I do not want to put money on them, ever. Offer credit/debit payment options.

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer credit/debit payment options for printing at the library. If you prefer to use cash, you can pay at the Circulation Desk, but please note that the charge will be $0.25 per page instead of $0.10. If you do add money to your DragonCard at the library, please note that this money is added in the form of Dragon Dollars and can actually be used in many places throughout University City. See the full list of retail stores for details.

Green Printing [Hagerty Library]

Printing should cost ½ price when using the duplex feature (both sides) since I’m using half the paper. It still costs $0.10 per page, so front and back it charges $0.20.

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, we are unable to discount the printing costs for duplex, because the more expensive part of the print-out is actually the toner—not the paper. We encourage you to use the duplex feature because it is environmentally friendly, but sadly we are unable to discount the cost of printing.

The hardware and software costs, maintenance, and supplies for printers actually cost the libraries a lot of money. If we did not recoup those costs, then the libraries would have less money to spend on books, electronic resources, laptops for loan, new workstations, and so on. Thanks for your understanding.

Scanners [Hagerty Library]

Could you please relocate the scanners? People are usually on the computers with scanners to study so those who need to scan can’t do so. Thanks.

Thanks for your question. Now that renovations in the library classrooms are complete, the library scanners are located in rooms L13C and L14. We are happy to post signs reserving those computers for scanner-use only.

Need More Copies on Reserve [Hagerty Library]

Why does the library only have one book on reserve per course for the business school? There are over 200 business students at Drexel.

Thanks for your question. Textbooks on course reserve are a courtesy provided for student use while students are in the library building-–they are not intended to be the primary way students access textbooks.

As a result, we ask that all students respect the borrowing privileges of course reserve books (usually 2 hours, in the building only) so that all students can benefit from using the books. Students are welcome to make photocopies or scans of the books. If you would like additional copies of a textbook placed on reserve, we invite you to talk with your professor and ask them to loan their copy to the library for course reserve.

Entertainment Weekly [Hagerty Library]

Please add Entertainment Weekly to your magazine collection.

Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, we are unable to add a subscription to Entertainment Weekly at this time, because it does not meet the core research needs of Drexel’s various programs.

Note that, in support of our television industry, screenwriting, and film and video programs, we do get access to Variety.com. It is available on our website under the “Databases” link in the green box. If you would like to subscribe to Entertainment Weekly individually, subscription information can be found online at http://www.ew.com/ew. Thanks for understanding.

I Need a Textbook [Hagerty Library]

Try to get solution manuals for most courses. One in particular would be for CIVE 240 Fluid Mechanics: Elementary Fluid Mechanics, 7th edition, Solution Manual by Robert Street, Gary Watters, and John Vennard.

Thanks for your suggestion. We are happy to place textbooks and solution manuals on course reserve, but we generally ask that professors loan the library their personal copies for the duration of the term.

Because textbooks (and the associated solution manuals) have new editions published so frequently, we are unable to purchase the new editions for each textbook. We would quickly end up with a library full of outdated textbooks! We recommend you speak with your professor and ask them to loan their copy to the library for course reserve.

Caffeine Recharge Needed! [Hagerty Library]

I think Sunday evenings would be a great time to sell coffee, because we are here studying for Monday’s courses but the café is not open!

Thanks for your suggestion. We agree that expanding the café hours is a good idea. We will talk with Sodexo and let them know there is interest in having them expand their service hours, specifically to Sunday evenings. Currently, the café is open Monday through Thursday from 3-8pm.

We also encourage you to contact Sodexo directly—it’s always best to receive feedback straight from the students.

Need a Little Peace [Hagerty Library]

I come here all the time to study. It used to be great, but ever since the law school finished the 3rd floor, it is never quiet anymore. We should enforce the peace more actively.

Thanks for expressing your concern. Now that construction is finished on the third floor, there are three quiet areas in the building: the second floor, the glassed-in room in the Lower Level, and the newest quiet study space in Room 127. Room 127 is currently being set up—we expect the room to be available in a matter of days.

Staff periodically walk around those areas to enforce the courtesy policy for noise. However, if you notice student conversations are a problem, please let the staff at the Circulation Desk know, and they will be happy to address the problem.
