Study Carrels Needed [Hagerty Library]

You should add more single-person desks in quiet areas. Thanks!

Thanks for your suggestion. Renovations are scheduled to begin in Hagerty as early as the end of the Fall Term. Although we do not yet know the extent of the renovations, we hope they will include additional seating areas. Thanks for your patience as we await these renovations. More details will be forthcoming.

Smoking Outside the Library [Hagerty Library]

I am tired of walking through death-clouds of cigarette smoke between the curb and the library door. Aren’t there laws saying smokers must be 25’ from an entrance?

Thanks for expressing your concern. Please know that we share your concerns about smoking outside the Hagerty entrance. We have signs posted notifying patrons of our policy, and we are asking Public Safety to patrol the area when they are on their rounds. We are also looking into moving the ashtrays further away from the library entrance. If you have a particular concern at any time, please see the staff at the Circulation Desk, and they will be happy to assist you.

Where’d the Newspapers Go? [Hagerty Library]

What happened to The Washington Post and The Philadelphia Inquirer?

Thanks for your question. We subscribe to The Washington Post online, but we have never subscribed in print. The Legal Resource Center (on the 3rd floor of Hagerty) has a print subscription—they have the most recent week available. You can also visit the newspaper online.

As for The Philadelphia Inquirer, we subscribe online and in print. The print version (for the most recent month) is available in the Bookmark Café. Hope this helps.

Your Inner Fish [Hagerty Library]

Please get a copy of Your Inner Fish: A Journey into the 3.5-Billion-Year History of the Human Body by Neil Shubin.

Thanks for your suggestion. This looks like a fascinating book, and we would be happy to purchase it. Expect to see it in the collection within the next several weeks.

Manga Madness [Hagerty Library]

Got manga?

Why, yes! As a matter of fact, we do. We have a great selection of recently-published manga in our Leisure Books collection. We also have an excellent collection of graphic novels on the second floor of Hagerty in the NC1764.5 and PN6790 sections. Please see staff at the reference desk if you would like additional help.

We need more vampire books! [Hagerty Library]

Can you please get Dead as a Doornail? Now that True Blood is on HBO, the Charlaine Harris Southern Vampire books will be popular.

Thanks for your recommendation. Our leisure collection is for newly-published books and since this book is a few years old, I suggest you use E-Z Borrow (which links from the library’s homepage at “Borrow from Other Libraries” in the purple box) to obtain this book. A book ordered through E-Z Borrow takes about 3-5 business days to arrive—you will be notified via email when it is ready to pick up at the Circulation Desk. We hope you enjoy reading this book!

More Scanners, Please! [Hagerty Library]

Can you get more of the e-scanners? It is much more convenient to scan/email than pay for copies! It is also very popular and lines build during busy hours.

Thanks for your suggestion. We will certainly look into the feasibility of acquiring more scan/email machines. In the meantime, there are four scanners available for use in the lower level of the library—two are in L14 and two in L13C. Hope this helps.

Noisy Security Gate [Hagerty Library]

Please turn the sound off for the security gate at the library entrance. The sound is extremely distracting.

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, we have looked into the noise at the security turnstile, and we are unable to quiet or turn off the noise. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

Printing in the Library [Hagerty Library]

Have more than one printer, or don’t charge extra to print at the circ desk.

Thanks for your suggestion. You’ll be happy to learn we have two printers at Hagerty. One is located near the computer hubs on the first floor and the other is located outside Room L33 in the Lower Level.
