The population of 1 year of Bio students is larger than the entire law school, yet they have 1/4 of the library for all undergrads. The fact that I don’t have study space in my school is ridiculous. I’ll be at Penn’s library.
Thanks for expressing your concern. We absolutely empathize with students regarding the lack of study space here at the library. However, according to our numbers, there are only 149 first-year Biology students, but over 400 Law School students. While this error does not detract from the critical issue of lack of study space, we do hope you will be patient as the University administration continues to add additional study space around campus for students.
Can 1-2 scanners (w/chairs) be placed in the Bookmark Cafe? Thanks for consideration!
Thanks for your suggestion. We are not sure if scanners in the Bookmark Cafe would be the best idea- when we had public computer systems there, they were often unplugged and down for several days at a time. The conclusion we have drawn is that most students would much rather prefer the electrical and network outlets over the potential scanning capability. We will, however, look into getting the current copier in the Bookmark Cafe replaced with a scanner capable one.
I would suggest that you remove the eating restrictions. The library is a place where many students spend many hours each day. This restriction discourages lots of things. It’s a shame that people won’t be able to enjoy all the fruits of the library…If you have to relocate when you want to eat, many people are just going to leave. And not come back. You should be doing everything possible to encourage people to spend time here.
Thanks for your suggestion. We instituted our new food policy not to discourage students from using the library, but to discourage mice and other vermin from making a home here! Additionally, meals in the library often create a mess- and we’d like to help keep our facilities clean and odor-free as a courtesy to all our patrons. Please help us create a positive study environment for all patrons by complying with our food policy and eating meals in the Bookmark Cafe.
Staff at the Circulation Desk, please pay more attention to the line of people that are waiting! Do your homework at your own time!! Thanks
Thanks for your suggestion. We’ll make sure to remind our student workers to be attentive to the needs of library patrons.
Bring back the keys for the study rooms! It takes hours to find a room, and when you do, someone else who wants your room says, “I’ve reserved this room!” when they didn’t! Also I see many rooms that have only ONE person, when study rooms are for GROUPS! (not to mention they are mostly on Facebook!) I pay TOO MUCH money to not have a decent place to study! HELP!
Thanks for your suggestion. We’re not sure that bringing back keys for the study rooms will solve the problems you mention. However, we are taking steps to remedy the situation, such as having our Library Courtesy Clerk ask single people to leave group study rooms during exams and revamping the online reservations to make sure students can’t abuse the system. If you ever have problems getting a room or asking someone to leave a study room, remember you can always ask for assistance at the Circulation Desk.
Could you please update your copies of India Today magazines. Actually most of the magazines in the Bookmark Cafe don’t have the recent issues. Please fix that. Thanks.
Thanks for your suggestion. We looked into it, and it looks like we were having some trouble with our current subscription to India Today. We’ll take care of it! As for the rest of the magazines, we typically put out new issues as soon as we receive them. The most recent issue should be displayed, but if you lift up the shelf, you’ll find more issues underneath. It may be that the most recent issue was simply misplaced.
Since the problems with the wireless internet are obviously not going to be fixed soon don’t you think the intelligent solution would be to add significantly more ethernet outlets???!
Thanks for your suggestion. As you know, we have been working with IRT on a possible solution to the issues with DragonFly 3. While we are unable to add more Ethernet outlets, we were inspired by your idea and are going to be providing “mini-hubs” at several locations (starting with Room 127!). These hubs will be able to accommodate several Ethernet cords with one Ethernet outlet. We hope to make them available during the last several weeks of the term, so watch for signage at the Circulation Desk for details! In the meantime, if you’re having trouble with DragonFly 3 here or anywhere on campus, please contact the IRT helpdesk at 215-895-5862 or consult@drexel.edu.
Please clean the computer keyboards and mouses because they are greasy and dirty. Thank you.
Thanks for your suggestion. We will speak to Facilities about cleaning the computer keyboards and mice more regularly. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!
Put a non-electric stapler on the stapling table– the electric one often won’t staple my papers until they’re pushed so far back that I lose the first lines of type.
Thanks for your suggestion. There is already a regular stapler at the Bookmark Cafe Stapling Station, but I went ahead and added another non-electric stapler to the Stapling Station near the printers. Hope this helps!
We know you’re frustrated about the quality of DragonFly 3 in the library. Now, one of your peers has taken matters into his own hands: he has created a Google Docs survey to capture the appropriate data so that IRT can analyze the problem and come up with a solution. Please contribute to this important project!
