The Classics [Hagerty Library]

DVDs: rest of the Stanley Kubrick collection and anything on AFI’s 100 Years…100 Movies list.

Thanks for your suggestions. We will gladly add the titles that we don’t already have to our request list. One thing to be aware of: we already have most of the AFI’s 100 Years…100 Movies films, but many of them are kept behind the circulation desk. Please look in the catalog for these films. The location in the catalog will tell you how long you can check these DVDs out (i.e. “Hagerty Reserve Room 3 Day Loan”).

Deadwood DVD Lost [Hagerty Library]

Deadwood.jpg

The HBO series Deadwood DVDs for Season 1 Discs 3-4 were lost last year and have yet to be replaced. It would be good to be able to view the entire series in order.

That’s a really good question. Unfortunately, we don’t have a great way to replace a single disc without replacing the entire season. Sometimes our vendors sell a single disc at a time, but that’s not available for Deadwood Season 1. We’ll keep an eye out and see if we can replace this. Thanks for your patience…

Books on Course Reserve [Hagerty Library]

Clock3.jpg

If the Bookmark Café is open 24/7 now, can you please allow reserve textbooks to be taken out all night as well? (During finals/midterms, 2am is pretty early!)

Thanks for your question. We agree that it would be beneficial for students to have reserve books overnight, especially during finals, and we are currently in discussion about this issue. Unfortunately, we cannot provide more details at this time, but please stay turned for more information.

Laurell K. Hamilton Books [Hagerty Library]

Please get the books Bloody Bones, Incubus Dreams, and Micah—all are by Laurell K. Hamilton. In May, her new book Blood Noir will be out, so if you could get that too, that’d be great. Oh, and all of the graphic novels that go with the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series.

Thanks for your recommendations. Our leisure collection is for newly-published books, so we will be happy to order Blood Noir when it is published (provided it is available from our vendor). To get the other books and graphic novels, I recommend you use E-Z Borrow, which links from the library’s homepage. What do the call numbers mean? [Hagerty Library]

Please provide an easy-to-find link on the front page on how the Library of Congress shelving system works. Also, please get more bike racks.

Thank you for your suggestions. We have a lot of information here at the libraries that we try to communicate on the library homepage. Unfortunately, we can't communicate everything! But we do have a helpful website explaining Library of Congress and call numbers: http://www.library.drexel.edu/resources/tutorials/usingcallnumbers.html. Here is some additional Library of Congress Classification information: http://www.loc.gov/aba/cataloging/classification/.

Regarding the bike racks, we are aware that there is a shortage of bike racks at the front of the building. We have ordered new bike racks, and they should be installed sometime during the spring term. We’d appreciate your patience for just a little longer. Thanks!

Mike's Bikes [Hagerty Library]

Mike's Bikes.jpg

Can you put Mike's Bikes on your computer systems?

Thanks for your suggestion. We are checking with Systems to see if it is possible to add this software. In the meantime, the Rocereto Computer Lab (located on the first floor of Matheson Hall) has Mike’s Bikes installed on all their computers. Please note that the Rocereto Computer Lab is made available only to students currently enrolled in LeBow College of Business.

Outlets not Working [Hagerty Library]

power_strip.jpg

More outlets everywhere. A lot don’t work as well. Also DVD: Aqua Teen Hunger Force Seasons 1-5!

Thanks for letting us know that many outlets aren’t working. We are planning to purchase power strips and we will make them available for checkout at the Circ Desk. That way, you will be able to access electricity throughout the building. We will let you know when the power strips are available. Also, I’ve added Aqua Teen Hunger Force to the list of recommended DVDs.

Steeper Fines Needed [Hagerty Library]

Can you please enact harsher punishments on people who don't turn in DVDs on time if at all? A chopped off hand should suffice. It's really annoying to have to wait forever for someone to decide to return in-demand DVDs when they get good and ready. Oh—and could you guys start burning DVDs so that way if they don't come back at all there’s an extra copy for rental? Thanks.

Thank you for your suggestion. While we agree that it is frustrating waiting for DVDs to return, we do think our fines are harsh enough. We charge $1 for every day a DVD is overdue. Realizing that our patrons are often financially strapped, we don't want to enforce harsher policies. Most importantly, we hope that our patrons will take the responsibility to return DVDs on time, and we thoroughly appreciate those patrons that do. Unfortunately, we are unable to burn additional copies of DVDs as that would be unlawful reproduction.

Recommended Movies [Hagerty Library]

Lord of the Rings.jpg

Last of the Mohicans.jpg

Please consider new movies: Lord of the Rings and Last of the Mohicans.

Thanks for your suggestions. We already have Lord of the Rings trilogy—it’s located in the Leisure DVD collection along the walls on the first floor. I will gladly add Last of the Mohicans to our list of recommended titles. Keep the suggestions coming!

ESL Software [Hagerty Library]

20% of students are international students. 50% of them don’t speak English really well. Should you have any software to support that?

What kind of software are you interested in? Please respond back and let us know. We do have the Windows XP language bar and foreign language character sets installed on the computers. We do our best to serve the broad range of student needs at Drexel, so please let us know what other software would benefit you.

Etiquette DVDs [Hagerty Library]

Please get some etiquette DVDs. That would be awesome. I posted this before but no one responded. By the way, I LOVE the library renovations so far. And I love the suggestion box.

Sorry for getting back to you so late in the game. We definitely could use an etiquette DVD! We will certainly look into getting a few resources. In the meantime, we do have some excellent print resources to help you brush up on your good manners. Please see this research guide for business etiquette: http://www.library.drexel.edu/resources/guides/businessetiquette.html. Glad to hear you like the library renovations thus far—there are many more exciting changes to come! Keep the suggestions coming.

March 05, 2008

Dexter [Hagerty Library]

Dexter.jpg

Dexter Season 1 Disc 3. Someone lost it? Any chance it can be reordered?

That’s a really good question. Unfortunately, we don’t have a great way to replace a single disc without replacing the entire season. Sometimes our vendors sell a single disc at a time, but that’s not available for Dexter Season 1. We’ll keep an eye out and see if we can replace this. Thanks for your patience…

March 04, 2008

Graphic Novels [Hagerty Library]

Could you please fill out the graphic novel series: Sin City (missing #4 and maybe #6); Sandman (vol. 8 and 9 are missing).

Thanks for asking. We’d be happy to reorder Sin City vol. 4—we already have vol. 6. We are also ordering volumes 1, 8, and 9 in the Sandman series--that should complete our collection. Thanks for your suggestions!

Miyazaki Films [Hagerty Library]

All Miyazaki films, including Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Castle in the Sky.

Thanks for your suggestions. You’ll be happy to learn we already have Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle. They’re located in the Leisure DVD collection along the walls on the first floor. I’ll add the other films to our list of recommended titles. Keep the suggestions coming!

New DVDs [Hagerty Library]

It’s been months since new movies have been added?????

Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, due to several very important projects going on (namely, clearing the third floor!), we have had to slow down the rate at which we’re adding new DVDs to the collection. However, we have recently added 18 new DVDs to the leisure collection and 48 new DVDs to the collection behind the Circulation Desk (Hagerty Reserve DVDs/Videos). Even though the collection behind the Circ Desk isn’t “browsable”, you may still check out the DVDs and take them home. We are currently working on getting new DVDs added, so please look for them soon. As always, if you urgently need a specific title, please see the staff at the Reference Desk who will be happy to assist you in submitting a Rush Cataloging request.

30 Days of Night [Hagerty Library]

30 Days of Night (graphic novel)

Thanks for your suggestion. We are ordering this graphic novel, and we’ll look into ordering the DVD as well when it’s released later this month.

Foreign Language CDs & Audio Books [Hagerty Library]

You guys should consider getting language CD’s so students studying foreign languages can have other resources outside of class. And books on tape and/or CDs too, for people who want to listen to something while they’re bored at their co-op jobs.

Thanks for your suggestions. We will certainly consider adding foreign language CDs or software for the future. In the meantime, students enrolled in language courses are welcome to visit the Language Lab (http://www.drexel.edu/coas/culturecomm/lang/languagelab.asp). We also encourage using LiveMocha (http://www.livemocha.com), a free, web-based language learning and language exchange site.

We are currently evaluating the possibility of adding an audio books collection, so stay tuned for more details. It’s always nice to hear that there’s interest. Keep the suggestions coming!

The Dark Tower series by Stephen King and The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan.

Thanks for your suggestions. We do have several books in the Dark Tower series available in both the leisure collection and online as electronic books. Please check in the catalog or go here to see exactly which ones: http://tinyurl.com/396qb4.

To get the other books in the Dark Tower series or the Wheel of Time series, I recommend you use E-Z Borrow, which links from the library’s homepage. Recommended Books [Hagerty Library]

Can we get the first 3 books (Point of Impact, Black Light, Time to Hunt) of Stephen Hunter’s Bob Lee Swagger/Shooter series? We have the 4th book (47th Samurai) but not the first 3.

Thanks for your question. Our Leisure Reading collection is for newly released books. Since the books you’ve requested are a few years old, I recommend you order them via E-Z Borrow, which links from the library’s homepage. Books ordered through E-Z Borrow take about 3-5 business days to arrive—you will be notified via email when they are ready to pick up at the Circulation Desk. We hope you enjoy reading these books!

Get more books, not more DVDs [Hagerty Library]

Why are we buying DVDs when we don’t even have a decent collection of books? If students want DVDs they should go to a video library. Most of my recent projects/leisure reading books must come from other libraries. Disappointing.

We are sorry to hear you’ve had a difficult time getting the resources you need here at Hagerty. We strive to meet a variety of needs, and the DVDs are useful both for class and for relaxation. Is there any specific area of books that you would like us to develop further? We are always more than happy to listen to suggestions for new books, research or leisure-related. You may not be aware that we have a collection of leisure books on the first floor—this collection is filled with recently-published fiction and nonfiction works, including many bestsellers. We hope you’ll check it out soon. And please do contact us with any recommended titles.

February 13, 2008

Audio Books [Hagerty Library]

Audio Book.jpg

Some audio books added to the library will be very useful.

Thanks for your suggestion. We are currently evaluating the possibility of adding an audio books collection. It’s always nice to hear that there’s interest. Stay tuned for more details…

February 08, 2008

Career Library Move [Hagerty Library]

Why would you move the career library? How are students on co-op (who have a lot of time on time on the weekends) supposed to access the newest/best books when we can’t get into 3201 Arch during the weekend? That was a bad and very disappointing decision.

Thanks for your question. Items in the Career Library’s circulating collection can be requested and delivered to Hagerty where you can check them out at your convenience. Just find the book that you want in the library’s catalog, and click “Request Item” in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. It takes 1-2 business days to have the book delivered to Hagerty Library. We hope you take advantage of this new feature.

DVD Disorganization [Hagerty Library]

Grinch.jpg

Is the DVD section organized in any way or do I walk around like an idiot for 20 minutes looking for "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"?

Thanks for your question. Because of how quickly the DVDs circulate, we are unable to keep them in any particular order. Some DVDs are checked out up to four times in a single day! I recommend that you look a up DVD in the catalog first to make sure it's available, and then you can begin the search along the wall. As always, if you've searched and searched and still can't find that title you're looking for, feel free to stop by the circulation or reference desks and we can help you look.

Love the DVDs [Hagerty Library]

The DVDs available are AWESOME. You guys are doing great. But we’ll probably need more space.

I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying our new DVD collection! We just recently installed some new, deeper shelving that will allow greater capacity for the TV shows. We are closely monitoring wall space and will make adjustments as needed. Thanks for your comment!

Leisure Reading [Hagerty Library]

You Suck.jpg

Your leisure reading section is weak. Forget DVDs and pump that section up a bit. Get some more Christopher Moore books.

We’re sorry to hear you’ve been disappointed in the quality of our leisure reading collection. Thank you for recommending books by Christopher Moore—we will make sure to get his books in the future. In the meantime, we do have You Suck: A Love Story. Additionally, I will try to order A Dirty Job: A Novel, but there’s no guarantee on whether we can get a hold of his older books. Thanks for your suggestion, and please let us know if there are any other books you’d like to see on the shelves.
