Portable Power Chargers Now Available for Loan in W. W. Hagerty & Hahnemann Libraries

October 3, 2018

Need to charge your laptop, tablet or mobile phone between classes but forgot your charger? Now you can borrow a portable charger from the Drexel University Libraries!

On October 2, 2018, the Drexel University Libraries unveiled two lending kiosks with new portable power chargers in its 24/7 spaces, one in the Dragons’ Learning Den in the W. W. Hagerty Library and the other on the first floor of the Hahnemann Library in the New College Building in Center City. The kiosk in the Hahnemann Library offers 12 portable chargers, and the kiosk in the W. W. Hagerty Library offers 24 chargers.

Tech lending kiosks are not new to the Drexel Libraries. In December 2012, the Libraries installed Philadelphia's first laptop lending kiosk in the Dragons’ Learning Den in the W. W. Hagerty Library, which provides access to 12 MacBook Pro laptops for Drexel students. The new portable power chargers available at the W. W. Hagerty Library are an extension of this original kiosk.

The kiosk’s self-serve concept has been a big success on campus, and the Libraries started looking for similar ways to support students who use their own personal mobile devices on campus.

“We added the portable power chargers based on student feedback,” explained Ann Yurcaba, Director for Administrative Services at the Libraries. “Students are always asking for more outlets and seeking charging stations. Offering portable chargers is something we can do to alleviate that stress without the major renovations required to add new outlets to the Libraries’ physical spaces.”

The portable power chargers in each location (as well as the laptops available at the Dragons’ Learning Den) can be borrowed for up to five hours at a time and must be used within each library building.
