Search Tools

As the quantity of information available on the Internet, particularly the World Wide Web grew, many tools developed to help organize and find information.

In general, these tools fall into three categories:

• Subject Catalogs & Directories
• Virtual Libraries
• Search Engines

The distinctions between them sometimes blur: many of the major search engines also offer categorized lists or directories. One the next pages, we'll look at each of these types of search tools and how they can be used.
