Water Main Break Shuts Down W. W. Hagerty Library and Libraries Website
On Tuesday, July 21st shortly before 5 PM a water main broke outside of W. W. Hagerty Library shutting down 33rd Street and cutting power to much of the surrounding area. The library was closed at this time and servers housed in the building were shutdown, taking down the Libraries website.
Library staff worked remotely to get the site back up and running and it was back online later that evening. W. W. Hagerty Library reopened Wednesday morning at 7:30 AM.
While patrons were likely aware of the happenings due to the campus alert system, we know that this could have been a frustrating event for students at other locations while they attempted to access the Libraries website. We take great efforts to ensure that our website has very little downtime and continue to improve procedures to limit the downtime of our services in the event of these unexpected events.
For those at the University City campus, we’ve been made aware that there will likely be a noise disturbance as work crews repair 33rd Street.
