New Course Reserve Tool Coming in Spring 2024

February 1, 2024

The Drexel University Libraries is migrating to a new course reserve tool this spring.

Called Drexel Libraries Course Reserves by Leganto, the new tool from the vendor ExLibris will integrate with both the Libraries’ catalog and Blackboard Learn, making it easy for instructors to select resource materials of all types and compile them into one structured, comprehensive reading list.

What are the benefits of the New Course Materials Tool?

Drexel Libraries Course Reserves (Leganto) is designed to help instructors incorporate library materials in their Blackboard courses. Instructors can build reading lists that include books and articles provided by the Drexel Libraries, as well as videos, web resources, news articles, open educational resources and more.

Benefits for Instructors

  • Build course resource lists yourself or collaborate with others
  • Allow students to easily access course resource lists from Blackboard Learn
  • Easily roll over course resource lists from term to term
  • Track student engagement with course materials

Benefits for Students

  • Makes reading lists more manageable
  • Offers direct, easy access to online resources
  • Works on mobile devices
  • Contributes to better learning/study success

What do I need to do to prepare for the new tool?

For now, nothing! We are currently working to migrate all existing course reading lists from the current system (called Ares) to Leganto. Please note that the last date to submit new course reserve requests to Ares is February 19, 2024. After February 19, contact reserves@drexel.edu for assistance.

We will reach out to all faculty and instructors in early March with additional information and instructions on what to do after the migration is complete. We also plan to host several training sessions over the coming weeks.

In the meantime, we encourage you to watch this short introductory video, Course Materials Solutions for Faculty.

How Do I Get Help?

If you are new to course reserves and would like to take advantage of this service for the spring term, please contact us. All new course reserves requests for the spring term will be created in Leganto and will be available to review in mid-March.
