Course Reserve Instructions for Faculty

As a reminder, Ares was deactivated in Blackboard Learn on June 14, 2024.

Use the new system,
Drexel Libraries Course Reserves, to create and manage your course reserves going forward.
To remove Ares links from course shells, you must manually delete them.

 Contact us at
reserves@drexel.edu with any questions about this change.

The Drexel Libraries’ Course Reserves Service allows instructors to set aside books, films or sound recordings for class use, or to make articles or book excerpts available electronically through Blackboard Learn.

Follow the instructions below to link your Blackboard Learn course to the Drexel Libraries Course Reserves system. You must link your course to this system before you can create a reading list or submit a physical reserves request.

Linking a Blackboard Learn Course to the Drexel Course Reserves System

  1. Log in to Blackboard Learn using your Drexel user ID and password (without @drexel.edu)
  2. Navigate to the Courses page and select the course to which you would like to add a course reserves link.
  3. Hover over the + in the upper left-hand navigation bar. Select “Tool Link.”
  4. Name your new content area. We recommend the name “Course Reserves.”
  5. Select "Drexel Libraries Course Reserves" from the "Type" dropdown menu. Always select the “Available to Users” box.
  6. Then click “Submit” button.

Once you have created a link to Drexel Libraries Course Reserves in your course, you will be able to create a reading list.

Visit our Course Reserves Guide for detailed instructions on creating reading lists in Blackboard Learn.
